IMPHAL, July 27: Sahitya Thoupang Lup, Imphal has instituted two awards, namely Leirikamacha International Award and Thiyam Ibochoubi National Award for Manipuri writers who write extensively to promote the language, literature, art and culture of the state.

A release of the association stated that Leirikmacha award will be given to any Manipuri writer residing anywhere in the world who writes for the promotion of the language, literature, art and culture of the state. This award carries a cash prize of Rs. 10,000 and citation and it will be presented after every two years beginning from this year.

Thiyam Ibochoubi award will also be awarded to those writers who write for the promotion of language, literature, art and culture. This award of Rs. 10,000 will be presented after every two years beginning from 2012.

IMPHAL, August 19: With the general strike imposed by Sadar hills districthood demand committee (SHDDC) intensifying, the members of ADC, Senapati have re-affirmed the stand of the Naga frontal organizations said R.S Henry Hiilii, chairman Autonomous district council, Senapati.

Further it said that the government of Manipur must stick to the MoUs signed between government of Manipur and Naga Frontal Organization to avoid unwanted repercussion in Senapati district. Any decision related to the creation of Sadar hills, as revenue district should be acceptable to every community based on Naga historical accounts, it added.

While concerning the sentiments and aspirations of the people of Sadar hills, ADC Senapati fervently appeal the SHDDC to consider the plight of the general public due to indefinite general strike and call off the same on humanitarian ground.

IMPHAL, Aug 24: The physical efficiency test for direct recruitment of sub-inspectors (Radio Technician) which was postponed is re-scheduled from August 27 to August 30 at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium.

In this regard an official notification was issued by the IGP (Adm) chairman DPC for selection of SI (Radio Technician), Manipur T Pachou today, and further mentioned that, the physical efficiency test for Ukhrul, Chandel, Tamenglong, Churachandpur and Senapati districts will be held on August 27 from 8am, same test for Imphal West district will be held on August 28 from 8 am, for Bishnupur and Imphal East district including Jiribam sub-division will be done on August 30 and for Thoubal district physical efficiency test will be done on August 30, added the official notification.

The Wall Painting Project conducted under the theme “Global Environmental issues” was participated by school children. The students of Pitambara English School, Maria Montessori senior secondary school and Johnstone higher secondary school   were present during the wall painting project this morning.

IMPHAL Sept 1: A technical session on farming techniques of pineapples was held today at Hotel Nirmala today. The technical aspect of today’s session was conducted by professor W Ingo Meitei, head of Horticulture department of Central Agriculture University, Iroisemba.

The professor highlighted the advantages of pineapple farming and the economic returns of taking up such a venture. He said that the soil and climatic conditions of the state is very suitable for pineapple farming and there is abundance of plantation area in the hill areas.

Further he said that that the model farm at Andro has yielded crops perennially and the farmers have  become more financially free now.

IMPHAL, Sept 5: As a part of Community Services Banking adopted by the State Bank of India, SBI Branch Manager Porompat S Nikunchand Singh, presented one steel Almirah to the authority of the Kiyamgei Ideal High school during a simple function held this afternoon at the school premises.

S Nikulchand, branch manager of SBI, Porompat during the function mentioned that, the provision of the steel almirah to the said high school at Kiyamgei was made under the newly introduced schemes Community Services Banking of the SBI.

He further elaborated that, the introduced schemes of the SBI will further extended as per the needs of the general public from time to time.

In the meantime, Kh. Ibohal Singh principal of Kiyamgei Ideal High School, appreciated the choosing of educational institutions as priority by the SBI, and the school will further welcome any initiative of the SBI for providing lacking infrastructures of the education institutions in the future to come as many of the schools are sill running with multiple difficulties due to the lack of infrastructures he added.

IMPHAL Sept 14: The series of attack carried out against ADC purportedly by NSCN (IM) has provoked serious concern to the general public, said a press release issued by the convener of JAC against Sangakpham Bazaar bomb blast.

Drawing the attention of the Central and state government, the release said that the current security measure taken up by the state government lacks efficiency. The demanded that the security measure should be handed over to the central Investigating Agency under the supervision of central government. Perpetrators responsible for killing innocent civilians should be declare as Terrorist by the authority concerned and exemplary punishments should be awarded.

The release further added that the ADC members and their families who are victims of the terrorists’ acts should be given adequate security arrangements to safeguard the innocent lives.

IMPHAL, September 18: A statement of the SP, Impal East has claimed that a combined team of the cdo IE and 23 Assam Rifles has arrested one KCP (City Meitei) cadre identified as Moirangthem Sanajaoba alias Sanjoy Singh, 32, s/o M Budha of Luwangshangbam Mamang Leikai from the locality on September 16 at about 1:30 am. On verification he disclosed to have joined the outfit in the month of June 2011 and has been involved in extortion of money from the general public and government offices and transported arms and ammunitions from one place to another, it added. 20 live rounds of 9mm ammunition were also recovered, claimed the release.

IMPHAL April 6:  Unidentified persons suspected to be underground elements lobbed a grenade at the residence of one Oinam Inaobi,36,s/o Angouton, a resident of Leimapokpam Awang Leikai at around midnight yesterday.
The blast damaged the windshield of a parked earthmover and a dog was killed  by shrapnel. Inaobi is a contractor and also brother in law of social welfare minister N Loken. Local Meira Paibees held a sit in protest at Leimapokpam Awang Leikai community hall today. Nambol police has registered a case regarding the incident.
In another incident, a Chinese make hand grenade was found at the main gate of  RDO nursing institute located at Lamdeng under Lamshang PS today at around 6 am. The motive of the attack is suspected to involve monetory demands made to the institute by underground elements.
Further, residents of Haobam Marak Chingtham Leikai held a sit in protest today condemning the bomb threat made to inspector of Taxation department Rk Chitaranjan,50, yesterday.

A martyr complex in memory of the Nine persons who were killed by army personnel on April 13, 1982 at Kodompokpi has been constructed at the hillock.
Informing about the development during a press conference organized by the family committee for observation of 22nd Athoubashingi Ninsghing Kumon at Singjamei Kakchingtabam Bhamon Mantop.
A spokesperson of the committee has appealed to all the communities to offer  their tribute without any fear in honour of the victims.
