IMPHAL, July 11: The Controller of Technical Education has notified that the combined merit list and final merit list for the candidates who are selected for undergoing bachelor of engineering, bachelor of architecture and bachelor of pharmacy courses against the seats reserved for Manipur for the session 2011-12 will be announced on July 14 and 15 respectively at its office. The open counseling for the same will be conducted on July 16.

IMPHAL, July 17: The Red Shield Division claimed to have recovered 175 kgs of unprocessed narcotics in Karong of Senapati district today from an abandoned hut. The estimated cost of the seizure is approximately 75 lakhs in open market, informed a statement issued by the PIB Defense wing.

IMPHAL, July 20: The friends of hill people’, 11 Assam Rifles of Red Shield Division distributed solar lanterns to the village authorities of Aziuram village in Tamenglong.

According to a statement of the PIB Defense wing, the problem of electricity faced by villagers of Aziuram village was addressed with a solar lantern being given to the chairman for the village authority office. Not only this, the battalion also organized a free medical camp on July 18, on the villagers demand for free medical check up, at Monjiron Khunao village, a remote village of Tamenglong district lacking the basic medical facilities. A total of 70 villagers were examined in the camp. Malaria tests, free medicine distribution and lectures on basic health education including precautions against malaria were other activities carried out in the medical camp for benefit of the villagers, it said.

IMPHAL, August 3: The valedictory function of a three-day farmer’s awareness training progamme on agriculture was held today at the Lamlai Town Hall organized by the Awang Nongpok Apunba Loumee Lup.

Speaking at the occasion, chief guest Ph parijat, minister Agriculture and CADA & Labour stated that a plant health clinic centre will be opened at Chalou under Lamlai constituency this year for the Imphal east district, which will help the farmers of the district tremendously. He has further appealed to all farmers to conduct soil testing of their field before cropping to enable high yields from their farming.

IMPHAL August 5: As part of the All India Bank strike, the state committee of United Forum of Bank Unions also organized a sit in protest at SBI, MG  Avenue branch today. Employees of all the banks of the state participated in the protest opposing banking sector reforms, outsourcing of bank jobs, scrapping the Khandelwal Committee recommendations and to settle pending issues and demands. Convener of the UFBU, state chapter, H Kesorjit said that the demands for the welfare of the employees have been ignored and anti people banking policies are given more importance. Due to the strike, all banks in the state remained closed today.

IMPHAL August 8: The principals of colleges will be made to take part in the cease work strike of college teachers from August 11 as decided by a resolution passed today in a general council meeting held today said a press release of the convenor of Federation of College Teachers Associations, Manipur.

The release added that the cease work strike which started from August 1 have been carried out by the college teachers alone against the government’s failure to implement the revised UGC pay scales for government teachers and its equivalent cadres. The release added that the resolution passed today is being necessitated to intensify their demand.

IMPHAL, August 12: The Maring Students’ Union has decried the conduct of the government of Manipur in regards to Manipur State Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) forms issued by the Board of Secondary Education Manipur. The MSU in a statement said that there is no option for the minority to choose language rather than MIL and Language recognized by the BSEM and appeal the authority concern to make alternative arrangement for the minorities at the earliest.

IMPHAL, Aug 21: In its initiative to improve the infrastructure of the far flung villages of Senapati district, 59 Mountain Brigade under Red Shield Division has provided dozer to various remote villages of Saikul Region.

Dozers have been provided to various villages of Saikul on requisition from Chairmen and villagers of these villages and the same will continue till the time requirements of local populace are met. The dozer is being used for construction of tracks to connect the villages with the existing road networks, levelling of play grounds and also to support in the construction of church buildings. Till now the dozer has worked successfully at Lungjan and H Yangnom villages.  The dozer work is in progress at village Moljol where it is constructing a track. Chief and representative of respective villages expressed their gratitude for the humble gesture of security forces.

IMPHAL, Aug 30: Various political parties and civil organizations have extended their warm greetings to the people of the state on the auspicious occasion of Id-Ul-Fitr.

The Pangal Students’ Organisation, Manipur has greeted the people, especially of Muslim community in the state on the occasion of Id-Ul-Fitr.

PSO also appealed to the people to refrain from alcohols and drugs on the auspicious occasion of Id-Ul-Fitr.

In the meantime, Janata Dal (United) Manipur State unit, in its greeting message, mentioned that, the Muslims in the state as per the Islamic religion performing Ruja, fasting for a whole one month showing true believe in Allah. And wish that unity and diversity in the Manipur be brought with the coming of this true religious Id-Ul-Fitr.

The similar greeting message were also send out from the Manipur People’s Party, Minority Cell, MPP and Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress have also extend their greetings to the Muslim communities of the state with the coming of the Id-Ul-Fitr after ending Ramjan month.

IMPHAL Sept 1:  A one day consultative workshop on “GOI-UNDP Disaster Risk Reduction in Imphal City” was held at the conference hall of State Guest House today.

The aim of the workshop is to enhance the knowledge of the elected representatives and officials of the Imphal Municipality Council on the issue of disaster risk reduction concepts in all the construction and other developmental works undertaken in Imphal Municipality area. The workshop was attended by IMC functionaries.
