Imphal, Dec 28: The Congress party is trying to get 40 to 45 seats in the 60 Member House in the ensuing Assembly elections, Chief Minister, Okram Ibobi Singh today said. He was speaking during a function at Congress Office to observe the 126th foundation day of the Indian National Congress.
Opposition parties keep on leveling various charges but it is for the people to decide if the Congress party will come back to power or not he added. He lauded the people for enabling the Congress party to work for ten continous year.
It is hard to make central leaders understand the ground situation he added. It is not possible to make people sitting in New Delhi understand the situation he added. When central leaders come to Manipur they were taken to far flung areas by air . To strengthen democracy infrastructures were developed during the last ten years. New Assembly, High Court complexes were inaugurated and at all district headquarters new Secretariat complexes were constructed he said.
The buildings inaugurated will not generate revenue or employment but if the Congress returns to power new Irrigation projects will be taken up to make people self reliant. The Union government is trying to make the GDP reach nine percent and we should try to achieve 11 percent growth he further said.
Employment generation, connectivity, power will be given emphasis he further said. Electricity is provided to people only for about two hours during office hours and two to four during night time. He assured to make people get adequate power.
Okram Ibobi today indicated his willingness to forge alliance with other political parties in the State for the coming 10th general elections, saying Congress likes to join hands with like-minded political groups.
Coming down heavily on the Opposition party, the chief minister said they are in the habit of criticizing the Congress for they have nothing to say and added that let them criticize as long as they can, but subsequently the public will decide everything.
He also urged the party men to strive for winning at least 40-45 seats in the coming assembly elections.
Referring to the repeated remarks of the Opposition with regard to the construction of government infrastructures of which they often say that no resource can be generated from the new buildings of the government, the chief minister asserted that the structures are necessary for a democratic institution.
Congress President, Gaikhangam said Congress will be able to get about 40 seats.
