New Delhi, Jan 23: The Indigenous People Welfare Organization, in active collaboration with Delhi Tourism and supported by a host of other entities and authorities including the DoNER Ministry, Ministry of Home Affairs, Manipur Development Society (A Government of Manipur Undertaking), Sangai Caterers, NE Sun, etc., is organizing a mega event titled “Carnival of North-East India 2012” to be held at Dilli Haat, Pitampura, Delhi w.e.f. 18th to 28th February, 2012.
The event has been visualized and organized with the primary objective of providing an apt platform for projecting and promoting the diverse ethnic culinary arts, innovative craftsmanship and rich cultural heritage of the north-eastern region of India to people of the rest of the country as well as sensitization at the international level.
The spirit of the spring season coupled with the gaiety and effervescent mood that normally entails such a season, makes the period the perfect time for providing a fresh impetus as well as exploit the huge tourism potential of the region.
The mega event will be interspersed with a two-day musical entertainment show featuring various popular bands like Rishi Inc. (Delhi), Hundred Octane (Delhi), Recycle (Imphal),
The Dirty Strikes (Imphal), Soul Mate (Shillong), Fubar Ghetto (Delhi) and popular folk artiste from Mizoram, Mami Varte; a one-day fashion show parade featuring both aspiring and established models bedecked in ethnic and traditional attire incorporated with vibrant textures and intricate designs that amply portray the rich cultural heritage of the region will share the ramp to enthral the visitors; cultural shows of the 8 (eight) north-eastern states as well as an irresistible shot in the arm on the grand finale nite of the event with the popular jive of the state of Manipur “Thabal Chongba”. All in all, it promises to be an unf
orgettable and cherished experience for the eager visitors from all walks of life who are fortunate enough to throng the staccato entertainment mega-event.
Indigenous foods ranging from the humblest to the most exotic dishes and mouth-watering cuisines of the eight participating NE states shall form an integral part to tease and titillate the gastronomic palate of the visitors. Rare and indigenous crafts, artefacts, exquisite silks,
hand-woven fabrics, intricate designs with tribal motifs, hand-crafted mementos and jewelleries of all kinds, shapes and sizes, a spectacular range of cane and bamboo works, etc. by the inimitably creative and gifted artisans of the region will adorn the stalls representing the eight states of the region during the event.
The venue of the mega event, DILLI HAAT, Pitampura, near T.V. Tower, North Delhi, is the second open air food plaza cum craft bazaar run by Delhi Tourism & Transport Development Corporation (DTTDC) with the first located near AIIMS, Sri Aurobindo Marg, opposite
INA Market, Spread over a sprawling 17.8 acres far from the madding crowd, Dilli Haat, Pitampura may be accessed from both sides of the Metro Stations and has an 8000 sq.m. basement parking space.
