MNS:- The Union Minister for Commerce, Industry & Textiles Shri Anand Sharma launched an eBiz portal at the CII Partnership Summit in Agra today. The portal is India’s Government-to-Business (G2B) portal developed by Infosys in a Public Private Partnership (PPP) Model. “This Mission Mode Project will mark a paradigm shift in the Government’s approach to providing Government-to-Business (G2B) services for India’s investor and business communities,” said Shri Sharma while launching the portal.
In order to enable businesses and investors to save time and costs and in order to improve the business environment in the country, an online single window was conceptualised in the form of the eBiz Mission Mode Project under the National eGovernance Plan. Shri Sharma said that the “project aims to create a business and investor friendly ecosystem in India by making all business and investment related regulatory services across Central, State and local governments available on a single portal, thereby obviating the need for an investor or a business to visit multiple offices or a plethora of websites.”
Shri Sharma further said that the core value of the transformational project lies in a shift in the Governments’ service delivery approach from being department-centric to customer-centric. “eBiz will create a 24×7 facility for information and services and will also offer joined-up services where a single application submitted by a customer, for a number of permissions, clearances, approvals and registrations, will be routed automatically across multiple governmental agencies in a logical manner.” “An inbuilt payment gateway will also add value by allowing all payments to be collected at one point and then apportioned, split and routed to the respective heads of account of Central / State / Para-statal agencies along with generation of challans and MIS reports. This payment gateway is the first of its kind designed in India and can become a universal payment gateway for all eGovernance applications,” added Shri Sharma.
The Department of Industrial Promotion & Policy, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, is the Nodal Government Agency responsible for the implementation of the eBiz Project. Infosys Technologies Ltd. has been selected as the Concessionaire/ Project Implementation Partner and is responsible for the design, development, implementation and maintenance of the eBiz Solution.
Shri Sharma said that the government is “firmly committed to wide-ranging initiatives aimed at fostering the business environment in the country in a holistic manner. Our approach includes leveraging technology to bring transparency, improve efficiency and promote convenience. eBiz is an important step in this direction and we are pleased to work in partnership with Infosys on this project, which we hope will become a benchmark for successful Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) in the country.”
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Saurabh Chandra, Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Ministry of Commerce and Industry observed that “the eBiz Project is the first of its kind ever implemented in the country. It marks the highest level of maturity in web-based eGovernance applications as it strives to achieve horizontal integration across various verticals of Central government, State governments and Para-statal agencies”.
The first phase of the project, which was being launched today, provides an interactive tool that helps investors assess the Licenses and Permits requirements while setting up and operating a business in India. The License & Permit Information wizard will provide authentic information 24X7 to investors and businesses by providing answers to questions in an interview style format.

NEW DELHI, January 28 (MIC): Noted film director, Aribam Syam Sharma`s latest Manipuri feature film-Leipaklei (2012) has been invited for participation at the Jeonju International Film Festival to be held at Jeonju, South Korea from April 25 to May 5, 2013.

The Programme Coordinator of the Festival June Yun-kyung Kim informed the film maker Syam Sharma for screening the film in the section- `Special Section: Beyond Bollywood` of the 14th edition of the international film festival. The invitation came after the Jeonju festival authority selected the Manipuri film during the Kolkata International Film Festival.

Based on the Sahitya Akademi Award winning drama- Leipaklei written by Arambam Samarendra, the film tells the story of a woman- Leipaklei who is separated from her husband and whose life is surrounded by the hard trials of fate and is burdened with sustaining herself and her little daughter.

Leipaklei had an enthusiastic response from the audience and critics when it was screened during the 18th Kolkata International Film Festival held in Kolkata in November 10-17, 2012 and was the inaugural film of the 5th Guwahati Film Festival held at Guwahati in December 10-16, 2012.

It may be mentioned that Aribam Syam Sharma made his directorial debut in Lamja Parshuram (1974) after scoring music as well as acting in the very first Manipuri film, Matamgi Manipur (1972) directed by Deb Kumar Bose. His directorial debut is said to have beat the then superhot Hindi film running in another theatre in Imphal, Raj Kapoor`s Bobby.

His second Manipuri film was Saphaabi (1979), based on a Manipuri folk story and received the national award in regional category.  His third Manipuri film, Olangthagi Wangmadasoo (1980) was a block buster film and also bagged the regional award in the National Film Awards.

Syam Sharma`s  Imagi Ningthem in 1981, marked the first Indian film to have won the top prize of `Grand Prix` in the Festival of Three Continents, Nantes in 1982.

His Ishanou (1990) which was screened in the Un Regard Section of the Cannes International Film Festival in 1991 and travelled to many major international film festivals was considered as another masterpiece of Syam Sharma and was screened recently in Indian International Film Festival, Goa in the Centenary Indian Film section among 27 Indian films selected. Acclaimed as one of the most original film makers of India by international critics, Aribam Syam Sharma, now 73, had won five National Film Awards in Manipuri features and eight National Awards in non-features.

A recipient of Padmashri in 2007 and V. Shantaram Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008, Syam Sharma  was the first Managing Director of the Manipur Film Development Corporation Ltd, a Government of Manipur Undertaking established in 1987. During his tenure, he laid the foundation for infrastructure development and film promotional activities like organizing national and foreign film festivals and has authored an autobiography entitled –Living Shadows which was published by the Guwahati Cine Club.

IMPHAL, Jan 29: In a press release Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESSAM) lamented that in the face of recruitment of a large number of teachers under SSA, RMSA and Directorate of Education (S), the government of Manipur is facing the same problem which the govt faced 8/9 years back regarding the shortage of teachers. Urging the Ministerial team of the state government to take note of the matter seriously, DESSAM appealed to the government to take up special measures to provide teachers to the institutes where there are no teachers or enough teachers before a new academic session starts failing which, DESSAM cautioned that it would take up legal actions as per the Right to Education Act, 2009 in the interest of the students. Drawing the attention of the government of Manipur and the Education Minister, DESSAM further appealed to deal with the post rationalization of the schools under the government of Manipur.

The post Cleaning up appeared first on  KanglaOnline.com.

Many years ago, the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India ran a print campaign that was carried in news magazines and national newspapers. It showed two pictures: one, a beautiful shot of migratory birds hovering mid-air and the second, a shot of people in a car throwing waste and littering the area around their vehicle. The two captions read: ‘the birds came by air’ and ‘the animals came by car’. The advertisement campaign was part of a series of public service messages aimed at bringing attention to the near national habit of littering at public places in the name of ‘picnics’. Apart from littering, one other sore public habit being practiced in the country is that of spitting which is not found in other countries at all. Both aspects of public behavior are widely prevalent in Manipur unfortunately. The lack of garbage dumping sites and waste sorting systems in Imphal and other districts go a long way in presenting us the not so scenic sight of garbage in public spaces. But what is less talked about is the lack of dustbins in public spaces like markets, hospitals, shopping areas and even offices. The lack of civic sense is clearly seen day in and day out on the roads of Imphal where high end vehicles pull down their windows and throw out empty food packets, empty mineral bottles etc only makes matters worse.

There is an additional common social habit being followed in Manipur: one, where people converge in hordes around the Sekmai river, put up Shamiana tents, wash their vehicles and food items both besides taking dips in the river water and then use the water again for cooking purposes, all in the name of a picnic. Most common during the New Year period, the spectacle of vehicles driving down to the riverside is a typical syndrome of having a good time at the expense of people living in the area. Not many care to think of how they would react if a group of strangers came in hordes, cooked their meals and then dumped their waste in their living surroundings. There is no sense of civic hygiene or caring enough when people head for picnics. The tell tale signs in scenic spots in the state are enough proof of the sensitivity of people who travel in their vehicles and leave after dumping waste. It is not just the popular Sekmai picnic area that is littered but the habit of cleaning up by simply throwing waste to a waste collection point or in case waste bins are not around, picking up waste till they can be dumped at a specified place just does not exist. One does not need to get out of Imphal but can see it in the manner that residential areas throw waste outside of their own compounds. Check any public area and chances are there will be litter lying around.

Fortunately, it is not just a bleak state of affairs. There have been efforts by NGOs, activists and other social clubs and groups to clean up rivers and road-sides in recent times. Aided by social networking sites, young people today have come together to organize cleaning up campaigns by raising money and spreading the news without any agenda but to attempt a social awareness on cleanliness. Yet, these attempts are too little, too less and cannot make any substantial changes in the environment. A case in point was the Clean Nambul river campaign that brought people who did not even know each other through social networking sites. Young people went about discussing over the program, rallying volunteers and financing the materials needed for the campaign. What took months to formulate unfortunately went back to square one within a few weeks when garbage started piling up again. This is exactly what will happen in the Sekmai river-bed even as a club has started to clean up the litter that picnickers have left behind. So long as there is a social awakening on the need to clean up, there cannot be a real long term change of social habits. Till the time, parents and elders of a family show by example that they clean up, younger children will never learn to do so. Till the time, each of us do not care where garbage piles up as long as it is not in our compound, we will continue to have piecemeal campaigns to assuage our social conscience. But to ensure that things change for the better, there needs to be a broad social willingness to take responsibility towards a better and cleaner environment.
