JIRIBAM, Nov 18: Several social organizations and meira paibi groups held a joint meeting this evening at the All Jiribam Meira Paibee (AJMP) office.

The meeting resolved to organize the 74th NUPI LAL function observation on 12th December 2013.

The CM further mentioned that on his demise, the State has lost a well mannered, hard working and well known legal expert and his absence will be felt dearly by each one of us.

On behalf of the Government and the People of Manipur and on his behalf, the CM conveyed his deepest heartfelt condolence to the departed and also to the members of the bereaved family and prayed the Almighty to rest his soul in peace.

IMPHAL, November 18: The body of a woman was fished out from Ningthempukhri Wangkhei early morning today under Porompat Police station.

The body was found floating at the Ningthempukhri by morning joggers who informed the police.

The deceased has been identified as Ngangom Mitrajini, 44, daughter of (L) Ng Mangi of Thangmeiband Yumnam Leikai.

Police sources disclosed that the deceased was sleeping with her mother Pishakmacha, when she went out during the wee hours in the morning for toilet and then failed to return.

A massive manhunt was launched for her since early morning, only to be found dead this morning at Ningthempukhri Mapal.

Police ruled out any foul play as there was no visible sign of injury on her body. It has been informed that police have also recovered around 9000 rupees from inside the pocket of her petticoat.

Her corpse has been handed over to the family after having conducted post mortem at JNIMS.

IMPHAL, November 18: A cyclist was reportedly killed along NH-2 near Waikhom Mani Girls College Thoubal this morning when he was knocked down by an I-10 car bearing registration number AR-01C 1967.

Police sources said that the incident occurred around 11:30 am.

The deceased is identified as one Thokchomm Ibohal, 76, Thoubal Houkha Mamang Leikai.

Police registered a case with regards to the incident and taken into custody the car. However, the driver is reportedly absconding.

The corpse has been handed over to the family after post mortem at JNIMS.

IMPHAL, November 18: The Federation of Regional Indigenous Societies (FREINDS) has imposed restriction on male vendors selling their wares in the market sheds of Khwai Nupi Keithel, Thoubal Nupi Keithel, Kakching Keithel, Moirang Nupi Keithel and Nambol Nupi Keithel, said a press release from FREINDS.

It further requested all the respective bazaar boards to act in accordance with the new announcement, and added that the announcement is being made in view of the upcoming Manipur Sangai Festival in which foreign tourist would be visiting the various Nupi Keithels of Manipur.

In order make effective the their programme of action, a team of FREINDS of the Thoubal district branch has visited Kakching Keithel to see the condition of the keithel and it was found that eight non Manipuri selling their wares near the local woman vendors and such similar checking visits will be continued in the various Ima Keithel of Manipur, it said.

It is also said in the release not to engage non Manipuri Mayangs by the Ima Keithels as night watch because this will create complication when a woman will be boarding inside the Keithei due unavailability of transport for her home, it said.

IMPHAL, Nov 18: The indefinite hill district bandh called by ATSUM which was supposed to begin from November 19 midnight has been suspended with immediate effect, said a press release issued by  All Tribal Students’ Union, Manipur (Embro Sarto).

The ATSUM in the release stated that the decision was made after getting assurance from the concerned authority that the recruitment of chowkidar cum peon under ADC will not follow the 200 point rooster in latter and spirit and that the local residents of the respective village will be given preferences in the recruitment.

ATSUM said it will put emphasis on ADC having the absolute power for recruitment of all grade III and IV posts for the district councils. Proper domicile certificates and knowledge of the local dialect must be made mandatory, said the press release.
