IMPHAL, January 4: The Mayol Arts Exhibition was inaugurated today by Vedeshwar Sharma, secretary Manipur State Kala Academy at the Manipur State Art Gallery, Place Compound.

The exhibition which is showcasing 25 paintings and five sculptures will continue till January 6 and will remain open from 10.30 am to 4 pm.

The inauguration was also attended by Leishangthem Ishwor, joint secretary Neo-Gene Contemporary Artist Manipur.

Addressing the function, Vedeshwar said that Arts is a technical subject, which the people have failed to recognise properly.

Artists organise exhibitions either in solo or in groups, he said before appealing to the government to release more funds for the artists and encourage them to go out and exhibit their paintings alongside other national artists.

Artists have special talents and people should encourage them, lest they get frustrated, he said.

Seniors should also encourage their juniors, he opined before adding that the artists also should have patience and face the challenges.

In a press release issued by the dept. of information and publicity Kuki Student Organization (KSO) CCpur  today, the dept stated that  the KSO CCpur  are set to host  the annual submit  of KSO coded as General Assembly  and conference  which is slated to be held at  M.Songgel village  Community Hall ,Lamka  from the10 to 11 January 2014  under the theme ‘’CHANGING EDIFICE’’

The release further stated that the meet will highlight on the Changing Edifice effecting the structure formation and by law of the organization apart from reasoning together on the organization and also other consideration.

It further stated that  the KSO CCpur ,while accepting /willing  to take the responsibility  of hosting the meet , appeal  to the general public and all the Organization/ Association  to refrain  themselves from calling  bandh and strike, public meeting  and organizing  program  on the 10th- 11th January 2014 for the success of the KSO General Assembly and Conference.

IMPHAL, Jan 4: A boy was crushed to death by a Tata Dipper today at around 11 am at Langthabal Kunja under Wangoi Police Station Imphal West.

Locals of the area  nabbed the driver of the dipper and handed him over to the police.

The Tata dipper under registration number MN 05 2542 coming towards Imphal from Hiyanthang crushed the seven-year-old identified as Amom Alis son of A Alexander of Lagthabal Kunja Mayai Leikai.

Soon after the accident, the driver tried to flee from the scene but was chased down by the locals and handed over to the  Wangoi Police.

Meanwhile, the police have seized the vehicle and taken up a case.

The dead body of the minor has been handed over to family members after post mortem was conducted at RIMS morgue today.       

Meanwhile, at least two persons were killed when a freight truck carrying timber fell into a gorge at Namduanang Village 2 km away from Tupul along NH-37, 2 pm this afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Thandimpou Kamei, 45, son of Kambi Kamei of Kaikao Village Tamenglong district and Abel Gangmei, 25, son of Tingsangai Gangmei of Makhom (Marangching) Part-5 Tamenglong district.

IMPHAL, Jan 4: Manipuri Diaspora Association, Delhi, a secular and non-profit organization of Manipuri’s settled in Delhi and its surrounding areas celebrated its foundation day today at Dwarka, Delhi.

RK Falguni, ex-secy (DoNER) attended the grand occasion as the chief guest and col RK Pakasana Singh as guests of honour, while, vice-president of the association Ng Penny attended as the president, said a statement of the association.

The function was also attended by various other special invitees and dignitaries.

While speaking on the occasion, the chief guest  expressed his happiness regarding the efforts made by Manipuri Diaspora Association and showered his blessings.

RK Brajachand Singh, president MDA shared the vision and mission of the association to build MDA office cum guest house and Manipuri School in order to bring unity and social harmony among the various Manipuri communities residing in the National Capital  Region, it said.

The function ended with a grand lunch in Manipuri cuisine, it said.
