IMPHAL, June 11: The deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam today inaugurated the hostels for both boys and girls of the Eklavya Residential Model School at Chikin village, Moreh and also the bridge constructed over Khujairok River.

According to a press release of the DIPR, a formal function was held at the Moreh Trade Centre with the State deputy Chief Minister as chief guest.

During the function, Gaikhangam said that the two hostels will provide educational opportunities to Scheduled Tribes students, it said.

He further stated that the hostels will nourish the talents of the students from the poor families.

Further according to the release, Gaikhangam also made a general appeal to the people of the sub division to look after the hostels as well as the model school as their own home.

In connection with Khujairok Bridge, the deputy Chief Minister informed the gathering that the construction of the bridge was started in the year 2007 with the funding of Assistant to States for Infrastructure Development and Allied Activities at the cost of Rs 3.66 crore, it said.

He also mentioned of the need of infrastructure development at Moreh as it has become a face of the State.

Addressing the gathering, Commerce and Industry minister Govindas Konthoujam expressed that the Khujairok Bridge will connect the bye pass route which was constructed to ease traffic volume of the commuters of Moreh. The minister also expressed his confidence that the bye pass route will be helpful to the trade activities of the border town.

The chairman of the Manipur Tribal Development Corporation T Manga Vaiphei, Tengnoupal A/C MLA D Korungthang and Commissioner of the Commerce and Industry L Lakher also attended as guests of honour.
