IMPHAL, June 23: Locals of Mayaikoibi and its surrounding localities today staged a sit in protest against the killing of a police sub inspector, Mayengbam Krishnadas, 52 son of (L) Noidiya of Kwakeithel Mayai Koibi by unknown persons on June 21 night at Lamjaotomba IVR road.

While strongly condemning the incident, a protestor has appealed to the government to arrest all those involved in the heinous crime at the earliest and punish them according to the law of the land.

Speaking for the JAC, the protestor asserted that family members and the JAC have decided not to claim the body until the culprits are arrested.

Krishnadas’ wife Bina had said that she would never accept the body until the culprits are arrested.

JAC representatives also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister, Home minister and the State DGP through Social Welfare minister who is also the local MLA. The representatives also met with the Home minister later in the day.

The memorandum has demanded a deadline for the arrest of the culprits, while assuring all possible help from the JAC and family members in the investigation.

It has also demanded a suitable job for the deceased’s son in any government department and the provision of a relief amount of Rs five lakh to the bereaved family. Other demand include to allow conduct of post mortem but to take back the body until the other demands are met.

Post mortem of the body was conducted today at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Morgue in the presence of a duty magistrate with full video coverage, however, the family and JAC refused to claim the body.

It may be mentioned that the sub inspector posted at Bishnupur police station M Krishnadas was found dead with two injury marks on his left abdomen suspected to be made by a sharp weapon at Lamjaotomba Inter village road of Sangaiporou to Heinoubok on June 21 around 9.30 pm under Lamphel police.
