IMPHAL, June 23: The Manipur Sahitya Parisad has observed its 80th Birth Anniversary at Sangaipat and people paid floral tribute to the portrait of Prof Elengbam Dinamani, the founder of the Parisad.

During the programme, Dr Makhonmani Mongsaba who won the Sahitya Akademi award for his travelogue ‘Chinglon Amadagi Amada’ in 2013 , Dr Soibam Ibomcha Singh, winner of the Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize of 2013 for his translation work ‘Khambi Meigi Masa Sing’ translated from the book ‘Wings of Fire’ written by APJ Abdul Kalam.

Raghu Leisangthem, Sahitya Akademi Bal Sahitya Puruskar winner of 2013 for his book ‘Patpangi Thoibi’, Sahitya Akademi Yuba Puruskar winner Akhom Yandibala for her book “Lai Matha Sari” in 2013 were felicitated by the Manipur Sahitya Parisad.

Speaking at the function, Dr Makhonmani Mongsaba said that his grandmother encouraged him a lot to choose the path of literature and after his career in a Radio Station at Imphal, Radio drama has inspired a lot in the field of arts & culture, and literature.

The radio station has immensely helped in building his persona, he said.

Elaborating on his travelogue Chinglon Amadagi Amada portraying his journey outside the state, he stated that without literature any form of art is meaningless.

Thoubal SP Raghu Leisangthem said that his book is about many incidents he witnessed during his postings at various places of the state in far-flung areas where many people don’t know about their lifestyles.

Expressing that some people consider individuals who write books as having financial difficulties but on it can be improved by translating their books in English, he said there are many good writers and poets in the state who will be benefited and their success will also attract others.
