IMPHAL, October 17: The Chandel District Magistrate has imposed curfew from 5pm to 5am along the Indo-Myanmar border in the district and said no person shall move within 3 km of the International Boundary.

The official order said it is reported that extremist elements are likely to cross the International Boundary into Myanmar with view to creating law and order problem in the State.

Information has also been received which has made it appear that there is likelihood of illegal export of commodities from the district to Myanmar through the border and illegal infiltration from Myanmar, `which if allowed to take place is likely to cause disturbance and in my opinion immediate prevention and speedy remedy to stop these illegal activities is desirable,` said the order.

The order has also said that no persons including local hunters shall move in the jungle and no person shall carry any firearm for the purpose of hunting, fishing or any other purpose whichever within the limit of the territory in actual control of India in the district during the said period without prior intimation to the Company Operating Bas/ Temporary Operating Base Commander of the Assam

It has also said that no person shall move by any vehicle/on foot or by any other means within the three km belt of the International Boundary within the territory in actual control of India in the district during the said time without prior intimation to the Company Operating Base (COB)/Temporary Operating Base (TOB) Commanders of Assam Rifles/Indian Army deployed in the area.

Any movement whatsoever between the said period within the three km belt of the International border within the actual control of India in Chandel should be endorsed by the village chief with prior intimation to the office of the commandant Assam Rifles Bn./ Commanding Office, Indian Army Bn. deployed in the area and the Circle Officer deployed in the area.

The order also said that all vehicles and personnel moving across the International Boundary under the Free Move Regime (FMR) and people moving on roads and tracks in villages close to the boundary and all houses in the vicinity of the International Boundary will be liable to surprise checks and vehicle inspection by the Assam Rifles Bn/ Indian Army deployed in the area to prevent acts of smuggling, transportation of illegal contraband items and illegal trafficking of arms and ammunitions.

All village heads are liable to prove the authenticity of identity of the individuals during surprise checks in their respective villages/areas within the limit of the territory in actual control of India, in the district of Chandel district, it said.

However, this order shall not apply to the State and Central government employees on duty in the border areas, it said.

This order shall remain in force for a period of six months from the date of order, if no. ordered otherwise in the meantime, it said.
