Meiteis are demanding Scheduled Tribe status – because (1) Meiteis want to restore equality with other tribal brothers according to Indian Constitution. If Tangkhul is the elder brother of Meiteis, we should have equal status sharing everything just like members of the same family. If Tangkhul is Schedule Tribe, then Meitei who is the younger brother should also be Scheduled Tribe.
