Hepatitis C is upto 95 pc curable with new drugs

It claims close to 1.5 million lives every year, and so, hepatitis is considered to be the world’s 8th biggest killer. While hepatitis is caused by a group of A, B, C, D, E viruses, Hepatitis C is emerging to be a new health threat in India. As we observe World Hepatitis day, Dr N Suraj Kumar, Assistant Professor Gastroenteroloy, JNIMS says that with the advent of the new antiviral drugs, the infection can be cured in upto 90-95%.

Waiting for justice

July has a special significance for human rights activists in Manipur. It was in July 2004 that 12 elderly Manipuri women leaders stripped themselves naked in front of the Assam Rifles Centre at Kangla with a placard that read, “Indian Army Rape Us”. That followed the arrest and killing of a suspected woman cadre of a rebel group by personnel of the 7 Bn Assam Rifles.

Fencer felicitated in Imphal

Imphal, Jul 27: The Rising Union Club felicitated Saikhom Nancyrose who recently won a gold and a silver medal each in the 8th Mini National Fencing Championship that was held in Nashik, Maharashtra from July 21 to 23.
Nancyrose won the gold in group event and the silver in individual event. She belongs to Khangabok Part 3 and is a daughter of Saikhom Manao and Indrani.

Remand for rape accused

A non-local accused of raping his minor step-daughter has been remanded to 15 days judicial custody after he was produced before the Sessions Court, Imphal West today.
He was produced before the Court by a team of Sekmai police in connection with a case registered against him under FIR number 35 (7) 2017 filed under Section 4 of POCSO Act.
The Court satisfied with the prayer of Investigation Officer of the case remanded the rape accused to 15 days judicial custody till August 10.

Mishap claims 1

A pedestrian was killed when he was knocked down by a truck at Balongai along Imphal-Jiribam highway at around 2.30 pm today. The deceased has been identified as Meijoulungpou Kamei (48) s/o Ganguilong of Oklong village, Tamenglong district.
Driver of the truck, Santosh Grewal was rounded up and thrashed by some people of the locality. He sustained some injuries.
Meanwhile a case has been registered at Nungba police station in connection with the incident.
