Thoubal: The 24 hour general strike called by National Revolutionary Front (NRF) in connection with the Merger agreement inked by Manipur’s titular king Budhachandra with the Indian Government on September 21, 1949, greatly affected Thoubal and Kakching district.
Shops, street vendors, and other business establishment remained closed at Kakching Bazar, Khongjom Bazar, Thoubal Bazar, Wangjing Bazar and Yairipok Bazar.
Passenger vehicles also stopped plying on the road.
Schools and other institutions also remained shut during the general strike.
