During the important transition period, (i.e. the time British left Manipur after handing over its mantle to Dominion India, 15/8/1947 to 15/10/1949), Sir Akbar Hydary was the Governor of Manipur for most part. The man had a perfect understanding with Manipur Maharaja Bodh Chandra. He liked Manipur very much and hence visited frequently including holidays. He died of a heart attack on a duck shooting holiday at Waithou Inspection Bungalow in the winter of early 1949. As per the wish of Lady Hydary, the mortal remains was buried at Kangla Fort where it is still observed.

Pothole poses grave risk

IMPHAL, Sep 24 : A big pothole which is there at the eastern end of BT Flyover near Gambhir Singh Shopping Arcade right in the heart of Imphal city has been posing serious threat to commuters and the public.
Even though the State Government promised to fill up all potholes doting different major roads of the State capital, a big pothole is there at the eastern end of the BT Flyover for quite sometime.
With the pothole growing bigger and bigger, it has all the potential to cause fatal accidents any day. The pothole is growing so big that a bull or a horse can easily fit in.
Meanwhile, many quarters have started questioning the State PWD’s failure to fill in the pothole for such a long period of time.

IMPHAL, Sep 24 : One Yumnam Sitanjit (26) s/o Y Temba of Yairipok Malom, Thoubal district who reportedly won Junior Mr India title at Indore, Madhya Pradesh this year was arrested today in connection with a rape case registered at Singjamei police station.
The accused was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Imphal West-II and the Court remanded him to police custody till September 29.
According to a press release issued by Human Rights Law Network (Manipur) director Meihoubam Rakesh, the accused and the victim came to know each other through Facebook before Sitanjit coerced the girl and allegedly raped her with the false promise of marrying her.

IMPHAL, Sep 24: Under the aegis of 165 Inf Bn (TA) (H&H) ASSAM, B-Coy at Lokchao on NH 102 observed Swachh Bharat Abhiyan yesterday by doing Shramdaan along with the villagers. Jamthang Mate, the villiage chief conveyed his gratitude to Col S Mothey, Commanding Officer and Maj BVR S Charan, Coy Cdr for encouraging the villagers in taking part in Swachh Bharath Campaign. He further expressed to work together with Security Forces in future for social and economic cause.
