Police arrest 17 AMSU members

IMPHAL | Dec 15

Police reportedly arrested 17 members of All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) including its president, S. Manjit after foiling their attempt to storm the CM bungalow this afternoon.

The agitating students’ body has been demanding appointment of deputy director post of TRI from the selected MPSC candidate.

Briefing media persons after the protest at AMSU office at D.M. College campus, the union’s vice president, Peter Laishram has threatened to launch intense form of agitation from tomorrow if the government does not release its president and other members today without any condition.

He said that the union strongly condemned the police personnel for using excessive force against the students and expressed its anguish over police.

It is very unfortunate that the government is not taking up action against some corrupted officers who works in their own interest and rejecting an MPSC selected candidate who has already finished police verification and medical fitness test, he added.

The vice president said “it seems that the government wants them to take up severe agitation as they remained deaf ear to their demands.”

The student leader also warned that AMSU will continue with its protest until their demand is fulfilled.
