Chief of army staff visits Manipur

Chief of army staff, USYM, AVSM, YSM, SM, VSM, ADC, general Bipin Rawat arrived in the state on a two day visit to IGAR (South) from December 28 to 29.

A release said the COAS was accompanied by leitenant general Abhay Krishna, UYSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, general officer commanding in chief eastern army command and lieutenant genral Anil Chauhan, AVSM, SM, VSM, general officer commanding spears corps.

Meanwhile, major general, Virendra Singh, VSM, inspector general Assam Rifles (South) and all rank of Assam Rifles extend warm greetings and goodwill to the people of Manipur and wish everyone a Very Happy New Year, it said.

IG Assam Rifles (South) conveys his earnest message of peace, harmony, unity and understanding on this joyous occasion and wishes that all the goodwill should bring us together, irrespective of caste, creed and faith, the release continued. To commemorate the New Year, we all must take a resolve to weed out the inimical elements of the society and tread towards the path of unity, peace and prosperity, it said.  May the lord almighty bless us all with joy and happiness and guide us in our endeavours towards building a strong and prosperous nation, it added.

In the meantime, in continuation of its effort to bolster the bond with local populace in the remote areas of Manipur, 29 Assam Rifles of 28 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) organised a “New Year Cultural Programme” at Joupi on 29 Dec 2017. All the villages in the area of responsibility were invited at Joupi, Chandel District wherein they showcased their culture by traditional dance, it said. 

The large turnout of around 300 villagers, all charged with energy was indeed an achievement, the release informed. Career counselling seminar was also organised where participating youth were apprised about multiple career options including selection in Army and Assam Rifles, it continued.  Such a huge turnout was the testimony of their interest and zealous approach to achieve something in life, it said adding various other games and events were organised which saw large scale participation of the local villagers.

The event culminated with prize distribution to the winners and enthusiastic participants, it added.
