Student dies in school bus mishap

IMPHAL | Dec 29

A class XI student of Xtra edge higher secondary school died after he fell down from the front door of the bus he was travelling and its rear tyre ran over his head at Sega road Takhellambam Leikai this morning.  

The student was identified as Ningthoujam Lanchenba, 16, son of N. Deban from Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai, Imphal West. Police says Lanchenba died on the spot.

He is an only son and keen in his studies. The family of the victim expressed suspicion that he might have been pushed off from the bus by someone. Imphal police have filed a case in relation with the accident for further enquiry.

Police moved the body to RIMS morgue. Postmortem analysis will be done tomorrow, police said.

Joining the rest of the nation, the youth wing of BJP, Bharatya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) Manipur Pradesh today organised Sushasan Yuva Mahotsav at YCB ground, Brahmapur Aribam Leikai to commemorate the 93rd birthday of party’s first prime minister Atal Bihari Vaipayee.

MLA Thokchom Satyabrata Singh said Sushasan Yuva Mahotsav literally means a big festival for bringing good governance by the youth. The purpose of organising the Mahotsav is to represent the fundamental meaning of good governance to the masses with the achievements or initiatives taken up by the present government for the welfare of the country.

“Digging out black money through demonetisation and reaching the schemes to the real beneficiaries through direct benefit transfer are the signs of good governance, transparency and accountability”, cited Satyabrata.

Even in our state under the leadership of N. Biren Singh the government always ponder about bringing development by building peace and tranquillity among, he added.

Considering as the unique feature of BJP led government in Manipur he said so far not a single party except BJP had performed their duties according to the wishes of the public.

He said in short span of time right after the formation of BJP led government in Manipur four- month- long economic blockade was lifted, builds up strong relation between hilly and valley and increases people’s participation in governance among others.”

Besides central sector schemes, our CM launched various schemes that have to be funded from the state exchequer. When it comes to construction project Jiri road, life line of Manipur, Makru Bridge is almost in the verge of completion, he lauded.

He appealed to BJYM to inform the government of any type of problem being faced by the people and improper implementation of all the schemes after conducting survey from time to time. These could be the most important steps in bringing inclusive development in the society, he added.

President of BJYM Manipur Pradesh Pukhrambam Somorjit Singh said Atal Bihari Vajpayee was one of the true leaders who always have the desire of bringing development in North East India.

He recalled some of the remarkable work initiated by Vajpayee for the welfare of North Eastern states including Sarva Shiksa Abhiyan. For the rural development Pradhan Mantri Garmin Sadak Yojana was launched, he said.

With the idea of becoming India as a self-reliant country and superpower country by 2030, our Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated ‘Make in India programme’, he added.

Education minister felicitates media persons

Education minister, Thokchom Radheshyam today felicitated media persons at the Felicitation and Media Interaction Programme held at the State Project Office, ‎Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan (SSA), State Mission Authority (SMA), Manipur, Babupara.

While addressing the gatherings, the minister highlighted the various achievements and the policies taken up to improve the education system of the state. Till date, the directorate of Education (S), government of Manipur has taken up an arduous task on amalgamation of schools to enhance to the required standards, he added.

During media interaction, Radheshyam lauded the state’s media persons for their tireless contribution in imparting and disseminating the various information of the government to every nook and corners of the state, specifically to the education department. Schools aids were also distributed to the differently-abled students, teachers and the ZEOs. The programme was attended by commissioner of Education, H. Dileep Singh, director of Education (S), Th. Kirankumar and other officials of the department.

It may be mentioned that two Acts, namely, Manipur Private Schools (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2017 and Manipur Coaching Centre (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2017 was enacted on September 11, to regulate and supervise the establishment and management of private schools in the state. The process of the implementation of online process of GPF payment for employees of the department and digitisation of service books will be started with effect from January, 2018. Under SSA, seven residential hostel, 88 new primary schools and 38 upper primary schools have been approved this year.

Makokching Baptist Church under Kom Rem Baptist Churches Association commemorated its 100 years of existence under the theme ‘Chosen to bear fruits in faith’, based on Gospel John 15:16 at Makokching village in Saikul sub-division, Kangpokpi district.

The two days long Makokching Baptist Church centenary celebration concluded today with a high note with thousands of participants from different places across the state. The release of centenary souvenir with gospel message from the general secretary, CBCNEI, Solomon Rongpi marked the momentous occasion.

The concluding day was attended by general secretary, MBC, Rev. W. Konghar, general secretary, CBCNEI, Rev. Solomon Rongpi and executive secretary, KRBCA, Rev. Solomon Leivon attended as centenary speakers while local MLA Yamthong Haokip, vice-chairman of ADC Sadar Hills, Thangkam Leivon, councillor of ADC Sadar Hills, Thongjalun Mate, High Court judge, Songboi Serto, IG (LO/AP), Kailun Lupheng and director of Core Committee of the Centenary (CCC), Rev. L. Ahmun attended as special guests.

The centenary celebration was kicked off yesterday with gift presentation to the daughters of the Makokching villages who were married in other places and in the village. A 12 feet tall monolith was erected to commemorate the centenary celebration and it was unveiled by Solomon Rongpi. The inaugural ceremony was marked with centenary flag hosting, torch rally, lighting of evangelisation (centenary flame), striking the church bell 100 times, releasing of 100 lantern balloons and marching with light towards the centenary hall.

Interestingly, Somdal Baptist Church from Ukhrul also attended the centenary celebration of Makokching Baptist Church and also presented an enthralling gospel song on the occasion. Around 20 members of Manipur Adventure and Mountain Biking Association cycled all the way from the state capital Imphal and joined the centenary celebration.

Education and Youth secretary of MBC, Rev. Boipu Serto released the centenary souvenir flanked by other reverends, pastors and church leaders.

In his gospel message, Solomon Rongpi said that Makokching Baptist Church is one of the fruits of the first christian missionary in Manipur, William Pettigrew. He further exhorted the thousands of audiences to bear fruits in faith through biding with God and His love.

CCC expressed heartiest gratitude to all participants across the state in making the 100 years celebration of Makokching Baptist Church a grand success and conveyed their sincere happiness to all the speakers, dignitaries and others for their presence and making the celebration significantly memorable. 

It may be mentioned that Makokching Baptist Church was founded in the year 1917 under the leadership of the first convert of Makokching village, Longkhobel Karong and Simkhopao Haokip to become the fifth church to be founded in Manipur and the second among the Kom tribe. The duo was also honoured during the momentous celebration.

Tengnoupal police claim big hauls during year

The Tengnoupal district police has altogether arrested 20 UGs militants and two weapon dealer during different counter insurgency (CI) operations after S. Ibomcha was posted as the SP of the district from June 22.

According to official reports, the district police have also seized one HK rifle along with one magazine, three pistols with three magazines and 14 live rounds of ammunition during different CI operations.

On July 8 as a part of drive against drugs the district commando along with Moreh police has arrested one Anthony Michael Udaiyar, 44, son of Anthony Udaiyar of Moreh ward no. 3 from his residence were able to seized 29,000 numbers of pseudoephedrine defaced tablets from his possession.

Later on July 17 a combine team of Tengnoupal district police and 12 Assam Rifle have recovered 127 grams of brown sugar, 509 grams of heroin grade-I and 6970 numbers of WY tablets. The total value of the recovered drugs is worth around Rs. 3,39,00,000 in international market. 

The district police has also seized 40 gold bars totally weighing 6.6423 kilograms and worth Rs.1,92,64,132 and arrested two smugglers on December 11.

The two smugglers are identified as Mv. Iqbal Hussain, 31, son of Md. Allauddin of Kwakta and Gayajuddin alias Sagei alias Ningthou, 33 son of late Mv. Allimuddin of Lilong Kaleikhong.

Moreover the Tengnoupal district police has conducted a campaign of ‘Obey India Traffic Rules’ at Indo-Myanmar friendship bridge and presently the traffic rules is fully implemented with full cooperation from Myanmarese police and public.

In order to prevent the illegal immigrants including Rohingya muslim and smugglers along the border area Tengnoupal police team have been doing daily patrolling along the border areas of Moreh. Besides this five teams of Moreh police station personnel and CID (SB) are in civvies along the border area to monitor the illegal immigrants and smugglers.

Moreover the district police led by SP, S. Ibomcha has conducted house to house search and area sanitization many times at the border areas and Moreh town.

Education minister, Thokchom Radheshyam said deprivation, prosperity to share and vulnerability are very much related with the sustainable development. He appealed to transform the ideas into action for development.

The minister was speaking at the two-day International Conference on Sustainable Development and North East India in the Globalized Era at the Sangai Conference Hall, Imphal Hotel, organised by Federation of Government College Teachers’ Associations, Manipur (FEGOCTA) in partnership with DM College of Arts, Imphal, G.P. Women’s College, Imphal and Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Imphal.

‘Sustainable development could be called the relevance for it means to address the needs of today without compromising for future generations’, said Radheshyam.

The minister said that when the social, political and academic activities are carried out using technology, it affects and impacts the nature, resulting in conflict of human with the nature. In order to attain the sustainable development, mankind should first try to preserve the nature, human need to become more caring towards nature and protect the nature from manipulation of human greed, he added.

He continued that past, present and future are needed to be understood and take necessary steps carefully for the betterment of the world so that the sustainable development could be achieved for the generations to come.

It may be mentioned that the conference is organised in view to discuss the emerging trends and challenges of development with a focus on northeast India in general and Manipur in particular. The conference will deliberate on the following themes and related issues, Overview of Economy, Political Economy and Environment (Plenary Session of Invited Talk of 20 Minutes Each), Strategy for Economic Growth, Prosperity and Food Security, Bioresources Management and Sustainable Development, Environment and Natural Resources, Quality Education and Development, New Approaches to Physical and Mental Health, Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment, Reducing Inequalities and Disparities in Development, Innovative Approach to Justice, Peaceful and Inclusive Society and Exploring New Partnerships for Sustainable Development

PMEGP verification

TAMENGLONG| Dec 29

The District Level Task Force Coommittee headed by deputy commissioner Tamenglong, manager United Bank of India, and other officials today personally verified the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) loan applicants at the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner office, Tamenglong.

As many as 109 applied from Tamenglong district in different trades including cane  and bammbo, carpentries centre, tailoring centres, food processing, weaving centre, printing centre, iron work centre, bakery centre, laudry, computer centres, etc.

Deputy Commissioner, Tamenglong, Armstrong Pame, Manager, United Bank of India, Khaling Themson, manager, District Industries Centre (DIC) Khangmeidun Phaomei, principal in-charge of New ITI Premchand, etc. attended as officials and made inquiries to the loan applicants.

It is worth mentioning here that the bank in Tamenglong was not able to disburse the selected applicants of 2016- 17 under Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) scheme in Tamenglong district till today.

In the meantime, Joint Action Committee of selected loanee under Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) 2016-17 Tamenglong expressed their dissatisfaction over the newly recruitment process.

The JAC also appealed the concerned authority to make the disbursement for the pending applicants at the earliest time as possible.

The District Level Task Force Coommittee headed by deputy commissioner Tamenglong, manager United Bank of India, and other officials today personally verified the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) loan applicants at the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner office, Tamenglong.

As many as 109 applied from Tamenglong district in different trades including cane  and bammbo, carpentries centre, tailoring centres, food processing, weaving centre, printing centre, iron work centre, bakery centre, laudry, computer centres, etc.

Deputy Commissioner, Tamenglong, Armstrong Pame, Manager, United Bank of India, Khaling Themson, manager, District Industries Centre (DIC) Khangmeidun Phaomei, principal in-charge of New ITI Premchand, etc. attended as officials and made inquiries to the loan applicants.

It is worth mentioning here that the bank in Tamenglong was not able to disburse the selected applicants of 2016- 17 under Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) scheme in Tamenglong district till today.

In the meantime, Joint Action Committee of selected loanee under Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) 2016-17 Tamenglong expressed their dissatisfaction over the newly recruitment process.

The JAC also appealed the concerned authority to make the disbursement for the pending applicants at the earliest time as possible.
