IMPHAL, Aug 25: An electrical store at Thangal bazaar was partially destroyed by a fire broke out at around 11:30 am today.

The destroyed store is Bedi Electrical and Hardware Store owned by Guldeep Singh from Punjab.

According to the owner, the fire might have occurred from short-circuit in the godown. Some electrical items stored in the godown were destroyed by the fire.

Timely action of Manipur Fire Service could prevent the fire from further aggravation. Five fire tenders were used to put out the fire completely.

IMPHAL Sept 2: Troops of 33 Assam Rifles of Logtak Brigade under the Red Shield Division recovered an arms cache from Karangpat of Bishnupur district yesterday. Three 12 bore rifles and one carbine were seized from an abandoned floating hut in Karangpat. The weapons were concealed in polythene packets inside the hut, a PIB release said.

A press release by MPP Youth Front secretary Y Langamba has stated that the public has suffered from the imposed economic blockade. The prices of essential commodities have sky rocketed whereas there seems to be stockpiling of edible items and other PDS material. It can be clearly stated that this is a lack of responsible governance of the SPF.

To condemn the attitude of the government, MPP will organize a sit in protest at the office of the party located at Polo Ground on September 22, it said.

IMPHAL, April 5: 27 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector under of HQ IGAR(S) constructed a Volley Ball Court in Hiyanglam Village and Toilet Block at Sekmaijin Khunou Village, Thoubal (Manipur) under Assam Rifles Military Civic Action (MCA) Project 2010-11.  According to a PRO release, the Volley-ball court was handed over to the Village in presence of enthusiastic residents and the Pradhan of Hiyanglam on Mar 30 while the toilet block was handed over to villagers in the presence of pradhan and other prominent personalities of Sekmaijin Khunou on March 29. it further stated that the provision of such assists will surely help in overall development of these villages.

IMPHAL, April 9: A Base Transciever System (BTS) tower of the Airtel mobile service provider located at the northern side of the Langol game village has been set ablaze by some unknown miscreants last night at around 8 pm.

During the arson all the PIU equipment has been burnt completely beyond redemption.

According to Ningthoujam Rabi, 30, s/o N. Rupachandra of Langol game village, care taker of the tower, some unknown youths came to the place last night and burnt the equipments of the towers without any warning.

However he aded that another BTS tower of Aircel adjacent to the burnt BTS tower of Airtel was left unscathed by the miscreants.

In the meantime, the All Manipur Airtel workers`™ Union, has decided to switch off all BTS towers in the state from tomorrow following stern threat from an organization which will breakdown al1 mobile services of Airtel.

The decision of the union to switch off all BTS towers of the service provider will lead to the closure of all Airtel network in the state till a amiable solution is brought.

The spot painting competition was held on the topic ;Balanced Envitornment’ while the essay writing competition was held on the topic ‘The role of youth and students in biodiversity conservation’.

TAMENGLONG, April 21:The Zeliangrong Elders’ Forum of Peace Broker, ZEFPB in a press release issued by Convener, Rev. N. Palmei condemn the factional fighting between NSCN(IM) and NSCN(K) that occurred on 18 April, 2011 at N-gam village, bordering Tamenglong and Nagaland in Zeliangrong area killing one cadre of NSCN(IM) and injuring one each of the ‘IM’ and ‘K’ cadres  . The forum called it unfortunate and regretted that if there been a little bit of restraint on both sides, the situation could have been averted.
The ZEFPB reminds that Puiluan Peace agreement of July 18, 2008 is being observed by all the Naga National workers in Zeliangrong Region. The forum regrets to see the two factions violating the agreement signed by them. The ZEFPB also strongly appealed to all concerned to observe the Puiluan Peace Agreement strictly in the interest of the public and not to repeat such unwanted action in future in the Zeliangrong Region.

IMPHAL, April 26: A skirmish reportedly took place between security forces and suspected militants in the interior parts of Ukhrul district yesterday.
According to an official source, the incident occurred around 4 pm at a place called Skipe about 6 hours walking distance from Nambasi, Kasom Khullen Sub-Division near the Indo-Myanmar border pillar number 96.
The same source maintained that troops of 12 Assam Rifles while conducting a routine patrolling duty at the area came under heavy attacked from the suspected militants who were armed with sophisticated weapons.
The Troops also retaliated to the firing and a fierce encounter ensued which lasted for several minutes.
The sources said that in the gun fight two militants cadre suspected to be of the RPF/PLA were believed to have been killed however the detailed reports could not be acquired till the filing of this report.

A KCP(M) statement said May Day is being celebrated in more than 80 countries throughout the world with the main objective of reserving working day for a labourer to eight hours daily.

With the coming of the May Day, the KCP(M) also wishes the farmers and labourers of Manipur for a meaningful and prosperous year.

It also said communist party and peasants/labourers are two sides of the same coin and the two worked together for the betterment of the society.

The KCP(M) statement further said revolutionaries, petty-bourgeois and rich peasants need to maintain a cordial relationship in Manipur.

IMPHAL May 3: As a part of its ongoing community service under the `heart to heart`™ project, the Rotary Club of Imphal sent two children suffering from congenital heart disease to Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, Delhi for open heart surgeries today.
A release of the club has identified as Bleson Kom, 9, s/o Shankup Kom of Sagang village, Churachandpur and N Preeti Devi, 3, d/o N Sailendo Singh of Kakching Khullen.

The two children who were accompanied by their parents were seen off at the Imphal airport by the club`™s president, rotarian Dr M Madhumangal Singh and its public relations chairman, rotarian W Kened Kumar, it added.
In all the club has facilitated open heart surgeries to 33 children, belonging to families below poverty line, who were born with congenital heart disease or holes in their hearts, stated the release.
