IMPHAL June 23: Discovering the movement of underground cadres in Khudengthabi area of Chandel district, troops of 31 Assam Rifles launched an operation in the said area and apprehended two cadres of the proscribed UNLF yesterday. 

According to an official release, the apprehendees have been identified as Md Tomba, 22, s/o Naba Chawaba of Kwakta, Moirang and Tazimur Rehman, 22, s/o Enamuddin of ward no.5,Moreh.

One AK 56 rifle, 2 mobile phones and Rs.1,100 were recovered from the two who along with the recovered items were handed over to the Imphal West Police station.

In yet another incident, troops of 23 Assam Rifles launched an operation in the Nongda area of Ukhrul district and apprehended one cadre of KCP outfit yesterday, it added.

The cadre has been identified as Leishram Abungcha alias Shushil Singh, 23, s/o Laishram Yaibi Singh of Chingningkhok Maning Leikai. One mobile phone was recovered from him, stated the release.

IMPHAL June 27: The All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) in support of the nationwide protest of journalist in the issue of delayed wage board notification will wear black badges at work tomorrow in solidarity.

AMWJU general secretary Sujeshwor in a release stated that the Indian Federation of Working Journalist, Confederation of Newsapers and News Agency Employees Organization, PTI, UNI, IJU, NUJI and AINS will be observing the protest and also requested state news houses to leave the editorial blank.

Further, non journalists employees are also requested to support the protest, the black badges can be collected from Manipur Press Club, the release states.

IMPHAL, June 30: A man succumbed to his injuries at the JNIMS after being assaulted by Meira Paibis of Chumbreithong on the charge of committing theft today.

According to a statement issued by the SP Imphal East district, today at about 11:30 pm two unknown persons were caught and assaulted by the Chumbreithong Meira Paibis along with others for allegedly stealing articles from Veirot Workshop at the area.

It said that as a result of the assault the two persons received serious injuries on their persons and evacuated to the JNIMS hospital for medical treatment however one of the injured victim succumbed to his injuries.

A case has been registered against the people of the localities at the Heingang Police station and three accused have also been arrested in this connection, it said.

IMPHAL, July 2(Newmai News Network): The All Manipur Tribal Union (AMTU) has strongly condemned reported manhandled a man mistaking him to be the general secretary of its organization (COPTAM) who identified themselves as members of a particular social organisation at North AOC in Imphal on June 28.

AMTU demanded from the state government to look into the matter urgently and book the culprits. It also appealed all the concerned authorities and civil society organisations not to engage in notorious activities that may disrupt the peaceful atmosphere of the state.

AMTU then expressed resentment over an incident where a traffic police personnel directed abusive langauge aganst its president D.P Panmei who is also a former minister. The incident occurred at M.G Avenue on Saturday, according to AMTU.

IMPHAL, July 17: The Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has demanded the concerned authority to streamline the reservation policy for the children of faculty members at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS).

A release of DESAM stated that the five percent seat reservation in MBBS course for the children of faculty members of JNIMS is a good policy for the institute to attract more of well qualified professors. However, the governing council needs to frame proper criteria before introducing such policy, it added.

IMPHAL, July 22: A Tree plantation drive was carried out by 15 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector under the aegis of HQ IGAR(South) at Phundrei, Thoubal on 22 Jul 2011.  A total of 500 saplings including 150 Gulmohar, 100 Jack Fruits, 100 Karpoor and 150 Neem were planted. Commandant 15 Assam Rifles alongwith Pradhans/Headman of neighboring villages like Langathel and Phundrei and approx 200 School children from the area undertook the plantation.  Representatives of the State Nursery department were also present on the occasion. The local people, especially the School children were impressed upon the significance of Green environment in today’s modern world.  The local populace have expressed gratitude at this yet another noble step taken by Assam Rifles.

IMPHAL July 25: Through the initiatives of several NGOs of Kumbi A/C several bags of fertilizers were distributed to farmers of Kumbi a/c this afternoon.

Karam Gyanenshwor, agent Ithai fertilizer said the fertilizer was distributed on the subsidized rate of Rs. 450 per bag as per decided by the government.  He added that the fertilizers were acquired with the help of other agents under fertilizers control order act of 1985 for the benefit of local  farmers keeping in view of the current situation relating to fertilizers. While briefing the media persons that were present during the distribution of fertilizers, he appealed the government to review in due course of time as the existing subsidized rate of Rs.420 lacks feasible as the agents have to pay extra charges for  transportation over existing subsidized rate.     

The fertilizers were given one bag per farmer to 190 farmers at a simple function held at Naodakhong community hall situated in Kumbi a/c today.

Later he mentioned that such initiatives will be undertaken for the welfare of farmers’ communities at other nook and corners of Kumbi a/c.

IMPHAL, Aug 3: A 24 yrs old Male, named Ajen Khan, s/o Phajera, r/o Irongcheshaba (Thoubal) was bitten by a venomous snake on his right foot while walking on road and brought to 15 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector under HQ IGAR(South) unit Hospital at around 08:30 PM today in a critical condition. The unit Medical team immediately provided anti-venom vaccine. Patient’s condition had gone worse due to the effect of the venom in his tissues. The patient was kept under observation with help of cardio respiratory monitor. As a result, the condition of the patient was stabilized.

In yet another, yesterday a  27 year old man namely Suraj Singh, S/o  M Nithemjao Singh of village Kakching Khunou, District Thoubal was bitten by a venomous snake while working in a paddy field and brought to  27 Assam Rifles Unit Hospital at around 4.30 PM in a critical condition. The Unit Medical Team immediately provided him critical life saving medical care by administering Anti Venom injection and kept her under observation with the help of cardio respiratory monitor and as a result managed to stabilize her condition and evacuated him to District Hospital, Thoubal.

IMPHAL August 5: Manipur Artist Touring Drama Party’s Bisharjan, a Manipuri adaptation of a play written by Rabindranath Tagore was premiered today at the Manipur Dramatic Union hall located at Yaiskul in Imphal east.

A ceremonial function was held prior to the premier show this afternoon. Dr. K. Sobita Devi, director Art and Culture, government of Manipur, Ksh. Ibohal Singh, president MDU and G. Gourakishwor, director, Hueiyen Lanlong Thangta Association graced the function as the chief guest, guest of Honour and president of the function respectively. Bisharjan, a production of Manipur Artist Touring Drama Party was sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, government of India, New Delhi, under its Tagore commemoration grant scheme. The play   directed by E. Joykumar Singh, is revolved around social discrimination and victimization of common people by high and mighty in our society. The play is translated to Manipuri from its original text by Khomdram Dhanachandra.

The arrested cadres have been identified as Mongjam Jiten Singh alias Budhichandra Singh, 41, son of late M. Jugol Singh of Yairipok Top Chingtha, Kongbam Leirak (PREPAK) S/S project officer of Imphal east and Thoubal district and Laishram Ibomcha Meitei alias Broiler alias Chingsomba, 25, son of late L. Janata Dal (United) in its condolence message mentioned that, the members of Janata Dal (United) Manipur unit has observed a condolence meeting in connection with the sudden demised of the Elangbam Suraj sitting MLA of the Yaiskul Assembly in an unfortunate road accident at Delhi recently.

The release further mentioned that, the members of the party observed two minutes silence and prayed the departed soul to remain in gods place in peace.
