Churachandpur: The JAC against the killing of Thangkhanlun has reiterated its demand for adequate compensation to the next of kin and initiate befitting action against the perpetrators of the crime as a condition to claim the body.
A statement issued by the JAC said they will continue with their agitation until these conditions are met by the Government. It also bemoaned the action of the district authorities as too soft and announced their resolve to take their case to the higher authorities.

Police arrest man with pistol

Churachandpur: A combined team of the Churachandpur Police and 25 Assam Rifles led by the Additional SP (LO) last night apprehended a 23 years old youth who is suspected to be involved in the killing of KNLF/KNO chief on August 2, while conducting a raid at Kinkin village in the district.
According to SP Churachandpur, Rakesh Balwal, one 9 mm pistol along with 3 live rounds, a grenade, detonator and one motorbike was recovered from the possession of the accused identified as Ngamminlen Haokip alias Diamond Haokip of Moreh Ward No 1. He is a member of the KNLF, Boithang group. Boithang, incidentally is the main accused in the murder of Lalmoi Haokip and is still absconding, the SP said.
Another man identified as Jangkhopao Haokip of D Moljang, Churachandpur has also been arrested by the Police for sheltering the arrested youth and the group’s leader Boithang after they allegedly killed Lalmoi on August 2.

Churachandpur: The District Administration Churachandpur has begun preparations for the successful celebration of the 71st Independence Day in the district headquarters and at the sub-divisional level.
In the run-up to the Independence Day celebration, several Government Departments will lead the way for a cleanliness drive in the town area under Swach Bharat Mission Gramin.
The entire stretch of the town has been clustered in four sectors for the drive and each of these sectors will be supervised by the DFO, CEO ADCC, SP and DC during the cleanliness drive which will be carried out by the Government employees.
Interestingly, the district has also constituted a screening and selection committee to prepare and short-list the names for the four categories of award the District Administration plans to distribute this year.
The awards to be distributed on the day have been considerably scaled down compared to the previous years as only one recipient each will be selected for the Best performing officer, Best Employee, and Best Grade IV employee.

Churachandpur: To uplift and support the downtrodden and underprivileged families of Manipur, the State Government extended financial aid of Rs 2 lakh to the family of the 19th position holder of HSLC examination, Johnson L Khongsai yesterday. The Deputy Commissioner of Churachandpur Shyamlal Poonia handed the money to Johnson’s mother Themchin Khongsai.

Churachandpur: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Churachandpur, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region organised a “Field Day on Chilli” at Sahenjang village today.
The function was graced by chief of Sahenjang village S Doungel, SMS Horticulture, KVK, Churachandpur Dr RK Roshan, farm manager L Basil as dignitaries.
The objective of the programme is to popularise the cultivation of local chilli or “Meitei Morok”. Altogether 20 farmers from Sahenjang and its neighbouring village attended the programme.
