IMPHAL, April 16: In a follow up to its investigation regarding the Satyabhama murder case, police have recorded the statement of a fourth person. Sources said the follow up investigation has revealed certain aspects of the case which were unknown till now.

It may be mentioned that the police have already arrested three accused in the case. The dead body of Ningombam Satyabhama, a 31 year old Junior Research Fellow at the DBT of Pathology, RIMS was found abandoned at Bashikhong Wangkhei Loumanbi Loukon early this month.

According to a reliable source, the Special Investigation Team constituted to investigate Case FIR No. 24 (4) 2013 IBG PS V/S 302/34 IPC registered by Irilbung police station of Imphal East District with regard to the killing has interrogated an accused.

Sources said the fourth arrested suspect has been identified as Phunsokwung alias Ahok (32), son of Stephen Phungsokwung of Ukhrul Sanakeithel and presently staying along the Naga River at North AOC, Imphal and that was interrogated by a SIT team led by Addl SP Imphal East, Rajen.

The source identified him to be the man who was mentioned to be still missing from the police by the DGP during a press conference announcing the arrest of the three accused on April 9 at the conference hall of the Imphal West District Police Head Quarter.

Sources revealed that according to the SIT recorded statement, Phunsokwung was the first to befriend Satyabhama even before she met Toijam James (another accused) with whom she later got involved.

Meanwhile, it is also learnt that until the SIT investigation is completed, the exact number of accused in the case cannot be ascertained.

On the other hand, the Asti ceremony of late N Satyabhama Devi will be held tomorrow and the JAC and other organizations along with the general public will offer floral tributes at Bashikhong Wangkhei Loumanbi Loukon where her dead body was found.

IMPHAL, April 9: Despite the police headway in solving the murder case of Satyabhama, there are some obvious gaps in the case story investigation as per the version given by DGP, Y Joykumar.

According to the DGP, the two arrested namely Ksh Biju alias Holendro, 28, son of Ibochou of Irilbung bazar and Thoudam Jibon, 27, son of (L) Thoiba of Irilbung Machahal Mayai Leikai were hauled up yesterday.

They were nabbed by tracing the phone call records of the late Satyabhama.

The DGP had said that as per Biju`s confession, he had called out Satyabhama from her home and they came in a Maruti car with the boyfriend Toijam Thesus alias Aboi alias James. The couple had a fight inside the car and later she tried to get down from the vehicle. In the tussle, James allegedly caught hold of Satyabhama`s scarf and this resulted in an accidental death.

This version was rejected by the police sleuths saying that it was a far-fetched one and not very convincing as mentioned by the DGP.

The actual version as said by the DGP was that, post the surrender of Thesus alias James today, it came to be known that Biju who was already in police custody was the one who had murdered Satyabhama. James had revealed this to the police today after surrendering. Later questioning of Biju by the police led to him ultimately owning up the crime. He had confessed that he went to the deceased`s home and took her on his two wheeler in the wee hours of April 3. He tried to molest her twice, and finally murdered her by strangling her with the scarf she wore at a waiting shed. Then, her corpse was loaded on the scooter and finally dumped at Bashikhong Wangkei Loumanbi Loukon.

IFP investigations into the police statement contradicts the version of Biju as narrated by the DGP. It is found unlikely that a young however naive would leave her house past midnight with a friend of James on a two wheeler all by herself. The statement that Biju tried to molest the deceased while driving and then later at a waiting shed cannot hold water given that a person who is driving a two wheeler would not be able to molest someone who is pillion riding. There are inconsistencies in the statement that even after Biju made an advance on Satyabhama, she would still follow him and then tend to her wounds at the waiting shed instead of trying to flee from the place. If Biju had indeed murdered her by himself at the shed, his immediate reaction would be to flee from the scene of crime and not go to the trouble of  loading the dead body of a 5 ft 6 inch tall person on his small rodeo scooter and take the risk of carrying the body with a scarf still attached to her neck then drive about 3 kilometres to the
spot where the body was ultimately found.

It may be mentioned that one police official at the press conference today mentioned that Shatyabhama was bundled up like a ‘gas cylinder’ in front of the scooter ,which is hard to imagine.

It is also evident from police statements that Toijam James was the one who told police about the crime committed by his friend Biju but this raises questions over a phone call that he is said to have made to a media house saying that he was not involvement in the case.

It is also unclear why James who is reportedly innocent was taking shelter along with his family at Purum Likli and give himself up rather then helping the police nab Biju by telling the truth earlier. It is also unclear why he would send his friend to  Satyabhama`s house  on a two wheeler.

These areas contradict the statements allegedly given by the arrested persons and reiterated by the DGP.

IMPHAL,April 8: There are new developments that Satyabhama may have been gang raped and finally done to death.

From credible sources and investigation by IFP, it is learnt that post the press meet convened by the DGP and other senior police officials today, the irate JAC members and public razed the three houses belonging to the named culprits to the ground.

In one incident, when the mob had started to burn the house of the main accused Ksh Biju at Irilbung bazaar today afternoon, an aged woman who was Biju’s neighbor had run out to inquire about the commotion. The youths explained that Biju was Shatyabhama’s killer and they had come to torch his place.

She told the youths that she had overheard cries of a woman emerging from Biju’s residence at around 2 am in the morning on April 3.

She heard the scream, “Eigei thawaidadi kanbiyu, eigei thawaidadi kanbiyu” (please spare my life).

Later, she heard a car drive in and after some time, it drove out. Afterwards, the screams emerging from the house ceased, she mentioned.

The irate youths on hearing the woman’s revelation thrashed up the woman as to why she did not reveal the fact earlier. Her explanation was that she was old and scared to go out and inquire into the matter.

This fact points that Shatyabhama was brought to Biju’s house on April 3, where she may have been physically abused by more than one person and later strangulated at the house. Her body was in all possibility loaded into the car and dumped at Bashikhong Wangkhei Loumanbi Loukon in the early hours of April 3.

It may be mentioned that police had seized a golden metallic Maruti car,  (AS/01-0397) from Thoudam Jibon (27), s/o late Thoiba of Irilbung Machahal Mayai Leikai.

IFP will continue with its investigation on Shatyabhama’s murder.

IMPHAL, April 9: The Manipur Police have been able to crack the Satyabhama murder case with 3 persons allegedly involved in the crime being arrested. The main culprit is identified as Kshetrimayum  Biju alias Holendro (28), s/o Ksh Ibochou Singh of Irilbung bazar who is a rifleman of the 1st Manipur Rifles. A red Mahindra Rodeo two wheeler bearing registration number (MNOIY/6310) was also seized from Biju.

He was arrested yesterday along with Thoudam Jibon (27), s/o late Thoiba of Irilbung Machahal Mayai Leikai. A metallic gold color Maruti car bearing registration number (AS/01-0397) was seized from him. The two are said to be friends with Satyabhama’s boyfriend identified as Toijam Thesus alias Aboi alias James (27), s/o Toijam Jugindro Singh of Thambalkhong Sabal Leikai, a Havildar of 7th MR.

Aboi also going by the name of “James` surrendered to police today morning from Purum Likli area which comes under Saikhul police station in Sadar Hills. He was with family members at the spot.

Altogether there are four persons related to the murder, according to DGP ,Y Joykumar. The fourth accused is identified as one Phungsokwung alias Ashok (32) ,s/o Stephen Phungsokwung of Ukhrul Sanakeithel ,at present residing at Naga River, North AOC. He is yet to be arrested.

Briefing mediapersons at the Imphal Police Headquarters conference room today, Yumnam Joykumar stated that the matter came to light after Toijam Thesus alias James surrendered today. “From his (James) confession, it is now known that Biju had killed Satyabhama. Earlier, Biju had presented a story to the police on interrogation that he had called out the girl from her home and he along with James had gone in a Maruti car. The couple had a spat over a pregnancy issue and got into a fight, following which James had beaten her and she ran out of the car. They tried to grab her and had pulled her scarf which resulted in breaking of her neck,” the DGP stated but went on to say that this story was `not acceptable`.

The DGP mentioned that James confessed to having a relationship with the deceased since December last and that the two had physically consummated their relationship on March 15, 2013. In the last week of March, they had already decided to elope but as family members had gone to Nambol and the day was in-auspicious, it was called off he said.

The DGP went on to say that on 27 March, the three friends  (the three accused) had a party wherein Thesus alias James who is married and has a son said that he was not keen on a permanent relation with Satyabhama. Biju worked out a plan and planned to end the relationship following which James gave a SIM card and mobile phone to Biju. Later, Biju called up Satyabhama stating that James had eloped as mentioned by IFP investigation. On the intervening night between March 2 and 3, Biju came on his two wheeler and called out Satyabhama on the pretext of escorting her to meet James. On the way, Biju tried to molest Satyabhama and her feet got hurt, the DGP said and added that while she was attending to her wound(s) at the waiting shed, Biju again tried to force himself on her and she resisted. In the tussle, Biju confessed to strangling Satyabhama with her scarf. He later carried the body on his vehicle on his own and dumped her at Bashikhong Wangkei Loumanbi Loukon where Satyabhama`s body later was found.

During the interrogation of James, he revealed that he had gone to Pallel `to appear for an examination` on Wednesday and was accompanied by Jibon and Phungsokwung. The DGP mentioned that James denied his involvement in the crime and that he had tried to enter Satyabhama’s home twice after knowing about her death but was not able to enter due to the the presence of the crowd and the police.

The DGP said that the investigation was hindered by the strike being imposed by the JAC but was able to investigate the matter thoroughly by tracking the phone numbers, mirroring   IFP probe into the case. He further stated that the Chief Minister Okram Ibobi left for Delhi on Saturday and gave specific instructions that the crime is sensitive and to investigate the matter.

The accused have been remanded to police custody upto April 15. It may also be mentioned that Satyabhama`s father along with JAC members had requested to see the captured persons, but the request was denied. The Imphal West Superintendent of Police, Imphal East SP, IG (LO), DIG Range-1 were also present in the press conference today.

While interacting with media persons outside the court, Sharmila  condemned the brutal killing of N Satyabhama and said that the state is witnessing such type of crime since many years. “These crimes are on an increase because the state government has failed to give  befitting punishment to the arrested person who are involved,” she said.

The post IFP probe reveal identity of primary suspect in Satyabhama`s murder case appeared first on  KanglaOnline.com.

By Paojel Chaoba
IMPHAL, April 8: An independent investigation by IFP regarding the murder of N Satyabhama points to two suspicious mobile numbers with the name registered to one number being found out.

The mobile phone used by late Satyabhama (8575319255), an Aircel SIM was her only contact number. From confirmed sources, it was learnt that from scrutinizing the call records of the number, that were two mobile numbers which could have been used by those involved in the crime. Our investigations show that the person who identified himself as one James alias Dasaratha from Nongmeibung is a fictitious name and the address made up by the person.

One of the mobile number which figures in the deceased`s call records is9863345091, a Reliance number, with the SIM card being activated on April 1 recently. There is another Airtel number, 8415983199 which is supposed to be a friend of `James`. This person/friend had called up to Satyabhama some time back and informed her that James had eloped with someone out of an unwanted scenario.

Family sources say that Satyabhama was crestfallen at the news of the elopement and had talked to this ‘friend’ to help her meet `James`. The person also mentioned that he himself was a married person and did not want to be involved in the matter, but he could help her meet `James` whom he knew was in a particular construction site. It may be mentioned that `James` had introduced himself as a contractor and said that he was involved in contract works of the Fisheries Department, SSA and Industrial Training Institute. He had occasionally taken out Satyabhama to witness his `construction works`. But care was taken by `James` not to meet any of her friends. None of Satyabhama’s associates had actually met `James` and Satyabhama had preferred to keep it that way. She was an introvert and normally kept to herself and had negligible social contacts even in her own locality.

`James` had borrowed money from her to finish his ‘construction work’ and Satyabhama was financially aiding this person for quite some time. The deceased, a Junior Research Fellowship at Pathology department of RIMS under doctor Dhruva since 2010 was being paid a stipend of 15,000 per month and earned extra income by selling Oriflame products. Sources informed that she even paid for his mobile bills, raising suspicions that this person under the false name of `James` was using Satyabhama for his own ends and may not be even be a real contractor.

The friend of James, the unidentified Airtel SIM user was also helping `James` play out his masquerade which states that there is the possibility of the two people being involved in the crime.

Stayabhama had left her home early on Wednesday last with a big striped green bag and a red ladies bag. Though it is not specified what the actual contents were besides the items recovered from the scene of the crime, sources say that she may have carried some amount from her savings and it was speculated by family members that she might have eloped on that faithful day. Her body was found at Basikhong Wankhei Loumanbi Loukon on April 5 and bore no ornaments, which is quite unusual for a Meitei woman. The passport photo found in her bag was found to belong to a co-worker Kuber, a laboratory assistant who had given the photo for applying for a PAN card. The blood testing equipment was her routine work appliance for scrutinizing blood samples, sources add.

It was learnt from family members that she had her periods by the end of last month and was not pregnant.

IFP through its sources have been able to find out the identity of the SIM card owner who was to have escorted her to meet James on the faithful day. The phone number 8415983199 was found to be registered under the name of one Yumnam Kunjo Singh, s/o Yumnam Gulamjit of Torbung, Kumbi.

IFP traced the identity and address today but even with Torbung having a large community of ‘Yumnam’s’, the particular name and data did not match. It was also learnt that a police team had came looking for the same person in the area. The independent investigation taken up by IFP found that the said mobile number was registered under the aforementioned name, pointing to the fact that thete are two persons involved with fake identities and knew how to cover their tracks.

Sources also adds that Satyabhama could have been killed elsewhere and later dumped at the area where she was found and this suggests that the area was well know by the assailants. Meanwhile , the concerned police authorities have kept mum on the matter when contacted by IFP. A case has been registered under FIR number 24(4)201B IBG PS, under section 302/34 of the IPC.
