The politics of economic blockade in Manipur

“Political unrest” has become a defining feature of the present-day Manipur. The state politics has been revolving mostly around one major issue, i.e., ethnic identity which can be seen in the strong demand for Inner Line Permit (ILP) and the Naga claims for the unification of all Naga settlements lying in different states in the Northeast under one political boundary. Regarding the latter’s case, Manipur for long has been held a victim along the National Highways No. 2 (Imphal-Dimapur), and 37 (Imphal-Jiribam).

The Unreasonable Effectiveness of Mathematics in the Natural Sciences is the title of an article published in 1960 by the physicist Eugene Wigner. In it, Wigner observed that the mathematical structure of a physical theory often points the way to further advances in that theory and even to other predictions. It also led him to believe in the ‘miracle’ of mathematics. In fact, he went so far as to say “the enormous usefulness of mathematics in the natural sciences is something bordering on the mysterious with no rational explanation for it.” More than half a century later, MIT professor Max Tegmark has taken the notion a step forward in the direction of a solution to the mystery. Rumi said that the wound is the place where the light enters you.This effectively means that if we can manage to be receptive to divine light despite being in a devastated state, the light will enter our being and resurrect us.

That catholicity, that universality of spirit,was actually portrayed by Guru Nanak in his writings.You find there the teachings of the vedic rishis, of the Muslim Sufis, and of so many other saints of our country. It is not a scripture which is limited to this particular tradition or that.We must respect all spiritual traditions.Whichever tradition enables us to go higher, to raise ourselves to the level of spirit,that must be accorded due reverence. So, to respect spiritual traditions is one of the great lessons which Nanak taught.
