Liu Xiaobo ,the Nobel Peace Prize winner is one of the dissidents languishing in the Chinese jail. He was never afraid to disagree with the military might of the Chinese Communique. The voice of dissent is the most potent force. Its not easy to be different amongst those who are out to crush you.

Many a dissidents serving life sentences in this part of the globe. Their voices are crushed many a times .They have to pay the price for being outspoken. Either you are thrown in the dungeon or either you have to meet an untimely death. Its a risky proposition… They have the guts to be different, to be critical and to be objective .  They have to take risk for being different…. They are sceptical, they love to question the authority even at the risk of their lives… They are the ones who do what other people dream of. They never do the predictable. They are instinstive and compulsive questioning the authority….They give a hard time to the authority….

Its time we have more spunky people to take on the powers that be…

Be it the government or the parallel government….

Lets not be homogeneous in our thinking….

Conformity will kill us….

Lets take risk…

Lets not be afraid to disagree….

We surely want a vibrant society…….

The house plunging in darkness.Imagine a house which cannot afford an inverter or a generator.Worse still,a house having both but not in a workable condition.A total blackout…The condition where you are cut off from the rest of the world and you just dont want to find out why for no rhyme or reason.

Power cuts are very frequent….Our right to electricity is restricted and is of a controlled and limited variety. To our friends in Dehli and in other states. This is unthinkable and unmanageable. We live in the dark age in this modern age. With frequent bandhs and blockades on the blink of an eye…We need this energy badly….I can see a lot of people making a beeline for purchasing rice-cookers.LPGs are sold at an all time high price. We can even think of using electric two- wheelers or four- wheelers given the condition of shortage of fuel in our state if the supply of power is good.

The power supply is too meagre. There were times when people stopped using the microwaves, internet, mobile chargers, lights, fans,ACs,refrigerators, telivisions. If this was the case in any metropolitan states in India….The whole of India will rise to curse the Electricity Board and the Government.

In Manipur,as the loadshedding is frequent.People are prepared for it.There are always the inverters or the generators for backup….We do have the Chinese made LEDs to supplement… The Chinese made LEDs are a big hit here. Thanks to The Peoples Replublic of China for this.Atleast, temporarily your products have adorned the households in our Manipur. And it glows well….

I cannot bear the heat for a minute. The mercury is soaring here in Manipur. Your sanity is lost the whole day. Thanks to the rain….The rain saves me from a lot of discomfort.

The frequent power cuts in my work place made me very irritated, very grumbled and very uneasy.I didnt mean to be a snob. But the idea of using a hand fan didnt hit me.When will we get our power supply for 24 hours uninterrupted?

I am not a Meitei fanatic when I write this….I dont agree 75% with the so called Defenders of Meiteism….

But why people with Meitei names are viewed differently?

Why we Meiteis are obssessed with names that dont belong to us?

As long as your names are Ganga,Jamuna,Saraswati,Radhamohan,Krishnakumar….You are fine….This is the psyche of the Meiteis…..

If you have a Hindunised name…..You are exalted, elevated and annointed…..If you have a pristine Meitei name you are viewed differently….

As if we belong to the proscribed organisation….

As if we are the master-minds of the terrorist activities going on in our state……

Meitei guys with Meiteis names are the harassed lot…..

They are subjected to questioning and at the receiving end………

I met two Chinese girls who didnt know about Bruce Lee. A teacher once told us- people who speak the Mandarin are the brainiest lot. The two Chinese girls were an exception. They had little knowlege about Bruce Lee and other things….. I guess they called him something in Chinese… I was shocked…..Bruce Lee is a big hit here…Till today ,there are people who religiously watch his flicks made in Hongkong… Every year, many students from East Asia flocked to India.

I was fascinated by the Chinese and even took up a course in Chinese Studies…I love to read about the rise of China, its economy, the relations with its neighbours and then its sporting prowess….Latter, I shifted to Japanese Studies ….I came across so many friends from East Asia….The most difficult part was communicating with them….It was very ,very dificult to communicate with the East Asian students…They looked very lovely and very subdued.

The epitome of Confucianism……. Confucianism as a belief is admirable but females are expected to be submissive. Our friends from East Asia weren’t argumentative, interactive or participatory….The East Asian students didnt want to mingle much….They were okay with the Northeasteners like me….I could sense their paranoia and uneasiness with others . The East Asians lack ettiquetes and the social skills. They look refined and polished in soap operas and movies.

There is a story…..Once an Indian Professor went to Korea. He took a cab. In the course of the conversation between the cabbie and the Indian Professor…..The Korean cabbie said to the Indian Professor-”Oh India, you are from my enemy country.” On the other hand, Indians would never say this to a Pakistani. In one of the seminars on East Asia… A Japanese women referred to Indians as very backward. To them India was all about snakes and people living in slums. The teachers gathered on that day handled those remarks very well. This was where Indians score over them……Which is the art of diplomacy.

Then,I met a Japanese girl, Ria….She was very shrewd….She narrated to me how her general knowledge about Manipur came in handy. She knew about Ibobi, the capital of Manipur, and several other tidbits….This came in handy when she visited the Taj or any other monuments of importance in India. She bluffed the people in the ticket counter that she was from Manipur. The people in the ticket counter asked all those questions to ascertain whether she actually was from Manipur or a foreigner…..She was crafty enough to pose as a Meitei….She didnt have to pay for visiting those important monuments. Another Korean researcher knew everything about Manipur. How many tribes are there, how many districts, who belongs to general category and who belongs to Schedule Caste and who belongs to Schedule Tribe… I was pleasantly surprised. Further, another Korean I met was Yoon. She used to take my class notes. She lost that class notes written in a big fat Register. The Register contained many important information about English Literature which I copied painstakingly during my graduation days and wanted to keep it for future reference. I had to bid farewell to that Register. She lost it in an auto-rikshaw. My worst days and nightmare came after that incident….East Asians,we love them…There are numerous instances of their quirkiness. They can be weird, funky, whacky, blunt and odd at times.

The East Asian girls are cute. Their countries project cute as a soft power element. They are all the product of that……

We always envy our neighbours. Birds coming and building nests in their maangols. We always wanted these birds to come and build their nest in our house. Also, we have always wanted these birds to shift their location to our side. These days, two senbrangs have chosen our maangol as the location to build their nest. Its one pleasing sight .Its very soothing to see these birds chirping and tweeting making their presence felt.

At  the back of our mind, we always felt we cannot force these birds to build their nest in our house. But,  one fine day , they flew over and they had a long session . From then on they  made up their mind to build a nest there. We thought these birds were making temporary arrangement. It looked like they were inspecting the site.

For a month they tweeted, sang and played in our maangol. They have become more  gentle than we thought them to be. They ain’t terrified of us at all. We made them so comfortable.  So their entry into our maangol was made easier. There is an electric wire that runs in the middle of the maangol. These birds sit prettily there much to the delight of all of us.

The way they gathered the materials was a sheer delight to see. Noises have increased and we are fine with it. We take it as a welcome change… Mom would like to call them born Engineers. They so meticulously planned everything. It was just marvellous. We have seen them use as many materials to construct their nest as they find it  available in the environment.

They use twigs and grasses. Mud is for cementing. Some birds use mud solely for nest building. The lining of the nests are composed of much softer materials and are more elegant than the outer shells. Materials such as fine grasses, fibres, pebbles, spider webs, plant down, and feathers grace the interiors.

They have adorned our house and we are  loving it……
