IMPHAL, April 30: SSA registered a big win against SYUC in the 35th mens Manipur state hockey league being held at Khuman Lampak Hockey stadium.

SSA scored at regular interval to total their score to 12 to which SYUC manage to reduce only two.

H Mani scored six goals for SSA while H Romi added three. Th Rocky and T Robin too scored one goal each.
The goal scorers for the SYUC were P Rakesh and M Dhananjoy.

In the second ground match, COSMO had a thumping win against HU with the score of 14-3.

K Johny scored four goals for COSMO while Amarjit and Thoungamba scored two goals each. Bronson, K Joy, Honda, Bebeto and Rahul scored one goal each for the winning team.

Ch Rishi, M Purnajit and P Hemjit scored for HU.

IMPHAL, May 6: The 6th edition of the Manipur State League football will be competed by only 10 clubs as no Clubs has applied for filling up two Clubs relegated based on the league table of the 5th Manipur state league.
Executive council of the AMFA has decided to fix the number of Clubs for the 6th MSL to 10 only with no fresh selectio.
The AMFA executive council meet held today also decided that the principle of relegation o two teams and selection/promotion of two teams to replace the relegated two clubs will maintain and continue.

IMPHAL, May 11: Azad Khan, Premjit and Vishal won their respective quarter final matches of the 1st state level CYLC tennis championship being held at Singjamei Chingamakha.
In the quarter final round matches played today Azad Khan defeated Kangjamba in two sets 6-4, 6-0 while Premjit had easy win against Bona with the score of 6-3, 6-1.
In the third quarter final round matches of the day, Vishal struggle to beat Sanjoy in three sets 6-0, 2-6, 10-7.

IMPHAL, May 21: Eastern Sporting Union, Wangkhei has lifted this year’s Th Birchandra Football Academy U-16 football trophy after defeating TBSFA.
In the thrilling final match played today at Toubungkhok, the Wangkhei club rely on a spot kick delivered by N Loken in the 23 minute which found the net. The match ended in 1-0 in favour of ESU.
ESU earn the spot kick as TBSFA defender Chingkheinganba handled the ball inside penalty area.
Referee Sh Suresh had no hesitation in awarding a spot kick to ESU and Chingkheinganba was sent off.
The winning team took home cash prize of Rs 25000  with a rolling trophy while the runners-up TBSFA was richer by Rs 15,000 with a rolling trophy.
The best fair play award of the tournament was bagged by YWC Malom.
JL Fimate of TBSFA was declared man of the tournament and he was richer by Rs 2000 with a trophy while best defender’s trophy was bagged by N Rohit also of TBSFA.
Most promising player of the league was given to N Loken of ESU while Y Suraj also of ESU was given best goal keepers trophy.
Top scorer of the tournament carrying cash prize of Rs 2000 and trophy was shared between JL Fimate of TBSFA and Raisomi of YOSC.

IMPHAL, June 2: Three powerlifter from Manipur have been selected for trial of the Asian Bench Press Powerlifting Championship to be held at Taiwan from August 16 to 18.

The selected powerlifters are K Sanayaima (48kg), N Sushila (56kg) and K Rosila (82kg).

In the meantime, nine girls and two boys have been selected to take part in the national sub-junior powerlifting championship to be held at Nagpur, Maharastra from June 8 to 10.

UKHRUL, Jun.11: “The secret of my success is my love of the game”, said Baichung Bhutia, former Indian Football team captain who is also referred to as the Sikkimese snipper in the Indian Football world.

The football striker coined this word while replying to queries by the people of Ukhrul in a public interactive discussion at Ukhrul Somsai. The “soccer Icon” was felicitated by the people of Ukhrul and the 17th Assam Riffles 10 Sector B’ Range Somsai today morning in a function hosted by the 17th Assam Riffles at its recreation hall under the theme “AR Presents Football Clinic by Baichung Bhutia on 11-06-2011 at Somsai”.

The DIG 10 Sector B’Range Somsai Brig. Narender Kumar in his speech expressed his deep appreciation of the “Indian Soccer hero” termed the star as one of the greatest “Icons” touching the zenith position of achievements in India in the arena of Football. The Brig also gave an assurance to sponsor one football talented school children between the age of 8-12 years from any school in Ukhrul to be cared in financially, educationally and especially in football encouraging to follow in the footsteps of Baichung.

The occasion was marked and attended by all ranks and files of the 17tth Assam Riffles led by the DIG and Commanding officer (CO) Col. Beniwal from the Army Sector where as the Ukhrul District Sports Association (UDSA) Officials, Public leaders, tremendous foot-ball fans from Ukhrul district especially the students of UDSA and Ukhrul District media team also participated in the interaction with the Indian star.

A comprehensive “person to person interactive session” was also conducted in an open platform before dessert break served by AR.

There was also an exhibition football match played between students of the district at the Somsai play-field.

The function was conducted by the commander Ukhrul Post Capt. Sushil Kumar followed by a welcome and key-note address delivered by Tennyson a public leader who elaborated on a brief background history of the soccer who was born in Tinkitam(Sikkim) on Dec. 15, 1976 and started his education in St.Xaviers School, Pakyong, East Sikkim and won a football scholarship from SAI at the age of nine.

He played for several local clubs in his home state before he represented and won the best player award in the 1992`Subroto Cup`.

In 1993, at the age of 16 he left school to join the professional East Bengal Club in Calcutta. Two years later he joined to JCT Mills Football Club, which went on to win the Indian National Football League in the 1996-97 season. Bhutia was the top goal scorer in the league, and was chosen to make his International debut in the Nehru Cup.

He was named “1996 Indian player of the year”. He became the 19th Footballer to recieve “Arjuna Award” in 1999. On Jan 26, 2008 he was chosen for “Padma Shree” for his contribution to Indian Football. He has been described as “God`s Gift to Indian Football”.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Lucky Sareo, secretary UDSA. Also footballs were distributed to various Ukhrul local teams by the visiting Indian soccer Icon. The former Indian football team captain is also reportedly to sojourn his stay in Ukhrul for a couple of days with an aim to train the football talented school children whom he is quite familiar with as infact his spouse (life Partner) Madhuri Bhutia who is a product from Ukhrul Savio School plus Ukhrul being the hometown of his colleague former footballer Somatai Shaiza.

IMPHAL, June 29: Manipur bagged 12 gold, six silver and five bronze medals at the 35th national Armwrestling championship held at Ludhiana, Punjab from June 16 to 20. 

In the junior girls category A Premila won gold in 45kg category while Ch Minerva, S Aruna and L Chaoba too bagged gold in the 60th, 70th and 70+ categories respectively. L Ranjita bagged silver in the 45kg category while Th Sangeeta and Rojimala bagged bronze medals in the 50kg and 55kg respectively of the section while Kh Ganita was fourth position holder in the 50kg category.

In the junior boys 70kg category, Th Ringo bagged gold while K Surjit bagged bronze.

In the women’s section, S Rani bagged gold in the 60kg while Ch Inaobi, M Memcha, S Inao and L Pusparani bagged gold respectively in the 70kg, 80kg, 80+kg and 65kg bout.

M Abe, Chanchalkumari and S Aruna also bagged silver medals in the 55kg, 65kg and 70kg respectively while Millonda bagged bronze in the 60kg category as also S Anita in the same weight category.

In the men’s 70kg category Md Kalam won silver medal.

In the Masters category, Th Othelo won silver in the 60kg while N Nobo and Th Sarat won gold in the 80kg and 100kg respectively.

IMPHAL, Sept 7: Manipuri players have excelled at the 13th Sub-junior and 8th Cadet National Fencing Championship held at Kolkata.

H Linthoi secured gold medal in cadet girls’ epee (individual) after defeating Christina of Kerala by 15-9 points.

Manipur team has also secured the gold medal in epee team event yesterday.

The state team comprising of Sayalaxmi, Russia and Thoibi also secured gold medal in cadet girls’ foil team event after defeating Assam by 15-13 points.

In the cadet boys’ epee individual final, N Santosh defeated L Lalpuni by 11-10 points. Both the players are from the state.
