IMPHAL, April 22: A combined team of Imphal West district police commandos and personnel of 43 Assam Rifles apprehended one alleged cadre of the proscribed KCP ( Lamyanba Khuman) group after a brief encounter at Nungpakthabi village under Sapermeina Police Station in Sadar Hill this morning around 4 am.

The arrested person has been identified as Yumnam Surjit alias Abung 27, s/o late Mani of Motbung Meitei Leikai.

According to an official source, the combined team reportedly recovered one AK-47 Rilfes loaded with a magazine containing nine live rounds and 12 empty cases of AK ammunitions, one lethode gun and four live lethod shells and two fired empty cases of lethod shells along with two demand letters of the KCP(MC) Lamyanba Khuman from his possession.

According to an official source, on getting specific information of the presence of some valley based under ground cadres equipped with sophisticated weapons being stationed in the hilly areas of Nungpakpokpi and Khongnangpokpi villages under Sapermeina police station, the said combined security team led by Inspector Sanjoy OC, CDO Sekmai Unit of Imphal West police rushed to the area and conducted a massive search operation around 3 am this early morning.

The same source maintained that during the said search operation the security team was initially attacked by the UGs by firing lethodes and other sophisticated weapons at which the security forces retaliated after taking positions at the foothills of the Nungpakpokpi which resulted in an exchange of heavy fire from both sides for about 15 minutes.

However taking advantage of the hilly terrain and the thick foliage, the UGs manged to make their escape, he added.

The security team meanwhile proceeded along the escaped path of the UGs and discovered blood stains and vegetations along the route.

The team finally managed to capture Yuman Surjit with arms and ammunition from the Nungpakthabi area, the source added.

KCP (Maoist) warns MLA and workers
IMPHAl April 22: The KCP (Maoist) in a press release by the outfit’s publicity and propaganda assistant secretary Nonglen Meitei has warned MLA Lamshang W Brajabidhu. The outfit will take up action against the MLA and his close workers as Brajabidhu in cahoot with security forces has been trying to bring the important functionaries of the outfit to task ,but the endeavour will prove fruitless as the outfit has strict methods of operations.

It further stated that the security forces are only venting their ire on innocent public and meira paibi leaders. Further, the outfit states that the ban on RDO has been lifted on purview of the careers of the students, but no new enrolment can be made to the institution. The outfit demands one Thiyam Inaocha of Tera Khuraijam Leikai, Oken of Sekmai Kanglatongbi and L Ingoncha of Chana Khul to surrender to the outfit.
