Imphal, Feb 18: A one day workshop/training was held in the Jubilee hall of RIMS on Saturday. Doctors and laboratorians from Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram are participating in it. It was organised by the National Reference Laborary, RIMS and MACS, Imphal.
Prof N. Brajachand, head of the Microbiology department and the NRL, RIMS said that the main objective of the workshop is to share information on the HIV testing scenario in the NE region. Various issues related to the fight against this disease will also be discussed. He further disclosed that the NRL in RIMS ranks the 5th position in this programme in the country. The authorities had appreciated the good works done in the quality control.
Dr Tomcha Khuman, Deputy Director of MACS said that the vulnerable sections of the people are the female sex workers, migrant labourers and drug abusers. There are regular testings of the vulnerable people.
Prof W. Gyaneswor, the Director in charge of RIMS said that it is a matter of pride that the NRL in RIMS is in the 5th position in the country. He said that many people are dying due to diseases associated with old age. However it is deplorable that many young persons are dying of HIV/AIDS. He also underlined the need to maintain quality control since a wrong report of the laboratory will spoil everything.
