New Delhi, June 7: Manipur Agriculture and Fisheries Minister Abdul Nasir urged the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs to sanction the Prime Minister’s package amounting to Rs 200 crore meant for welfare of minority communities in Manipur at the earliest.
He was attending the two-day National Conference of State Ministers for Minority Welfare held at Vigyan Bhavan here today, on behalf of the Manipur Chief Minister who held the portfolio of Minority Affairs. He stated that the Department of Minorities and Backward Classes(MOBC) of Manipur was doing well to take up many welfare measures for minority communities in Manipur as the Chief Minister was looking after the Department. He informed the conference that he was advised by Manipur Chief Minister to attain the National Conference as he could not take part it because of his tight schedules. He drew the attention the Centre to provide special attention towards the minority communities in Manipur in the sectors like Skill development, Health and Education.
Inuagurating the two-day National Conference of the State Ministers for Minority Welfare this morning, Union Minister of Minority Welfare Salman Khurshid told the state ministers that the government did not include any new caste in the OBC list nor increased any percentage for OBC Muslims, who were already entitled to this much reservation under the 27 per cent quota for OBCs as per the recommendations of the Mandal Commission. In fact, the sub quota was not provided on the basis of religion but that of backwardness, the Minister said. He informed that the Bill for creation of an Equal Opportunities Commission would be brought out in the next session of Parliament.
Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs, Vincent H. Pala was also present in the conference. Principal Secretary/ MOBC, W.L. Hanshing and Director/MOBC,Kh. Dineshchandra Singh accompanied the Manipur Agriculture Minister Addul Nasir in the Conference.
