Dimapur, June 17 NNN: Troops of 6 Assam Rifles based in Mon district of Nagaland under the aegis of Headquarters 7 Sector Assam Rifles busted ‘an adhoc transit camp’ of NSCN-K and apprehended two cadres of the outfit including ‘an officer’ who was in charge from Chenmoho under Aboi police station, Mon and recovered arms, ammunition, war-like stores and huge quantity of rice on June 14.
Assam Rifles source said today in Kohima that the cadres have been identified as Self Styled Lieutenant Awok Konayk, age – 25 years and his bodyguard, self styled ‘private’ Honlem @ Alem Konyak, age 20 years. Both the individuals are residents of Chenwetnyu village in Mon district.
During the operation the security force had seized one pistol, one 12 bore rifles, several live rounds of various calibers, explosives and many other warlike stores.
However, the biggest recovery during the operation was 3000 kg of rice. The interrogation revealed that the recovered rice was actually meant for people from ‘Below Poverty Line’ which is being supplied to the state under government scheme, the source added. The house from which recoveries were made belongs to Mrs Yannon Konyak of Chenmoho village.
The cadres were utilizing the vacant house as transit point for the cadres of the outfit who are active in Myanmar (a violation of Cease Fire Ground Rules) and as a warehouse for storing the supplies. The busting of this adhoc transit camp is a major blow to the other IIGs operating in Myanmar, said the Assam Rifles source.
The apprehended cadres have been handed over to Aboi Police station.
