Imphal, June 30 NNN: A picnic party in Ukhrul district instead of enjoying the holiday chores, has ended up in a bloodbath leaving one dead and injured many other critically. The death toll can rise, according to reports.
The dispute over the picnic spot between two villages has been the caused of the tragedy.
According to the reports received, villagers of Sihai village today were on a picnic at Phangrei Peak. On seeing large number of people at the peak, villagers of Lunghar numbering around 100 armed with sticks, machete and other lethal weapons rushed to Phangrei Peak and asked those on the picnic whether they had obtained a permission to have the picnic at the peak. The clashed hence followed with the Sihai villagers resulting in the death of a person and injured scores others hailing from Sihai village. All the injured have been brought to Ukhrul District hospital this evening.
Phangrei Peak is said to be a ‘zero point’ between the two villages. However, Lunghar village claimed that it belongs to the village.Meanwhile, the deceased has been identified as one K Lyton, 27 years old, son of late K Yarngam of Sihai village.
Meanwhile, the district police has started investigating into the incident.
