IMPHAL, Oct 12: Large number of BJP Mahila Morcha, Manipur Pradesh members sat a protest dharna behind the banner ‘Against LPG Price Hike and Cut in LPG Cylinder Quota by the UPA Government’ at Keisham Leikai Lairembi Mamang Leikai Community Hall, Keishampat here and then submitted a memorandum to the state Governor on Friday pressing him to control frequent price rise in term of cooking gas and to increase the quota of LPG cylinder to 12 per year.

The memorandum accused the UPA Government at the Centre of betraying the common man by increasing the price of LPG after putting a cap on the number of cylinders on all the people across the board, particularly the poor, middle class and lower income groups including farmers.

In the recently concluded BJP National Council meeting held at Haryana, the party has stated that the Congress led UPA Government has adopted an anti-people policy under which LPG cylinder quota has been cut and limited to 6 cylinders per year which has led to unbearable misery to the people of the country and also has caused great concerned to the womenfolk who are taking responsibility for domestic affairs, the memorandum mentioned.

The Congress party-led UPA Government, by taking anti-people and anti-poor decision with regard to LPG cylinder supply, has unleashed a false campaign saying that this was recommended by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Petroleum and Natural Gas in which members from all political parties are represented, added the memorandum submitted to Manipur Governor Gurbachan Jagat.

Condemning the UPA Government for the LPG price hike and cut in gas cylinder quota, A Sharda, vice president of BJP Mahila Morcha, Manipur Pradesh on the sidelines of the protest told newspersons that the party’s women wing will continue agitation against the Government policy unless the demands are met almost immediately.
