SHILLONG, Oct 16 : Meghalaya Chief Secretary Mr. W. M. S. Pariat today officially launched the website of the Meghalaya State Aquaculture Mission (MSAM) http://msam.nic.in/ of the Fisheries Department at Hotel Polo Towers, Shillong.
The launching programme was attended by Mr. K. N. Kumar, Principal Secretary, Fisheries Department, Mr. T. Dkhar, State Information Officer, Smti. P. L. Lawai, Deputy Secretary Fisheries Department, Smti S. Dkhar, Assistant Director of Fisheries and officers and staff of the department.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. W. M. S. Pariat said that the website was launch with an aim to provide comprehensive information about the Mission and its various projects which will go a long way in informing the public about the mission. Congratulating the department for the launch of the portal, Mr. Pariat directed the department to constantly monitor and update the contents of this website so that it can serve its stated purpose of providing accurate and prompt information to the public.
The main features of the portal include background, objectives, photo gallery, important contact numbers, frequently asked questions, news section and others information about the Meghalaya State Aquaculture Mission and its six mini missions. The website which is hosted by the NIC provides link to country and state portals.
It may be mentioned that the Aquaculture Mission is part of the flagship programmes of the State government and the Integrated Basin Development and Livelihood Programme. The Aquaculture Mission is operated with an objectives to develop the existing water bodies and creation of additional water area for large scale fish production including reclamation, rehabilitation of marshy and swampy lands, conservation of native endangered and traditional species of Meghalaya and developing breeding farms of commercially potential species on a large scale, creation of mass awareness, capacity building, exposure training and skill development of all the stakeholders and technical support for long term sustainability of fishery sector and capturing emerging opportunities in the fisheries sector. The Aquaculture Mission is further divided into six Mini Missions for better focus and ease of implementation.
