NSCN K not to be part of solution reached with NSCN IM

DIMAPUR, Oct 24 NNN : The NSCN faction headed by S.S.Khaplang said today that the outfit will always stand by the people’s side but reiterated that “we will never be a part of the NSCN-IM solution.” Wangtin Naga who is the kilonser (minister) in charge of public relations and NGOs said the outfit understands the […]

DIMAPUR, Oct 24 NNN : The NSCN faction headed by S.S.Khaplang said today that the outfit will always stand by the people’s side but reiterated that “we will never be a part of the NSCN-IM solution.”
Wangtin Naga who is the kilonser (minister) in charge of public relations and NGOs said the outfit understands the sentiments of the Naga public and “we will not do things that hurt the Naga populace.” “However, as has been reiterated, we are hell-bent against the NSCN-IM solution,” the NSCN-K leader stated while adding, “We are very much with the people.”
Earlier, NSCN-K had already said that it can never accept a piecemeal Naga solution. The NSCN-K had asked that nearly 30,000 lives of the Nagas had lost in the 70 long years fight protecting their ‘motherland’ and what if it ends up in a piecemeal solution?
The NSCN-K then said it does not recognise the Joint Legislature Forum (JLF) floated by the 60 MLAs of Nagaland legislative assembly to push for the expedition of the ongoing talks between the NSCN-IM and New Delhi.
The NSCN-K while dismissing Nagaland Home minister Imkong L Imchen as “nobody” when comes to Naga issue, said “No matter how much he may try to gain his political mileage out of the issue he will never succeed for everybody knows what he is and who he is.”
Imkong L Imchen was one of the 20-member JLF delegation to New Delhi currently camping in New Delhi.
Nagaland home minister Imkong L Imchen had reportedly stated on October 15 that neither the NSCN-IM nor the government of India had signed any sort of agreement to settle the issue within the Constitution of India. “Judging from the Imkong’s statement, he seems to be very much part of the ongoing negotiation (a party of IM or GOI) as the matter has to be clarified to the general public either by the NSCN IM or by the GOI,” the NSCN-K had said.
The NSCN-K then had said the Indo-Naga issue is dragging on for more than 60 long years due to the insincerity of the government of India and its agencies who tried to crush and suppress the Nagas with its military might for the last six decades.

“But on realising the futility of military exercises, New Delhi hesitantly concluded that military might alone cannot solve or suppress the Nagas’ determination for self rule hence, ceasefire was finally signed much to the delight of the military generals who have all along been telling the rulers at the echelons of power seats that only political negotiation could bring about a lasting solution. Therefore, now the talk of 15 long years of negotiation is not the issue, the Naga issue is not about 15 years but it is about 70 long years leading to the loss of nearly 30,000 brave Nagas lives protecting their motherland. This is only for Naga public awakening of what is going on and what is going to happen to the Nagas if all those lives lost in their fight for their freedom ends up in a piecemeal solution. As such, the NSCN once again reminds and reiterates its stand before the people that it will never be a part of the ongoing murmurings of the so-called Joint Legislature Forum (JLF) of the so-called Nagaland state,”.

IMPHAL, Oct 24 NNN : The biggest harvesting festival of the Anal tribe ‘Chavan Kumhrin,’ was celebrated at Tribal Research Institute, Chingmeirong in Imphal organized by Anal Taangpi Valing (Imphal) flaunting different cultural events and performing cultural rituals amidst merry making.
Since from the early period, the festival marks the end of the harvesting season when village elders headed by chiefs and priests offer part of the harvested crops to their God and then eat the remaining, said Chandel MLA Nunghung Victor who was attending at the celebration. He said the literal meaning of ‘Chavan’ is ‘autumn’ while ‘Kumhrin’ denotes ‘New Year.’
Victor also expressed happiness to witness the mammoth gathering at the function marking the Chavan Kumhrin celebration and offered prayer to the God for a bounty of crops for the coming year.
The celebration was inaugurated with Chavan Kumhrin Thanksgiving Gospel Service and it was followed by a glittering cultural programme.
As part of the festival, a fashion parade was held where several Anal students took part. Children and elders from Baptist Church, Imphal also staged a drama based on harvesting. Anal folk songs and cultural dances were later presented, aside from prayers were offered and then all the partakers together had a grand feast.Ex-MP BD Behring who was also taking part at the celebration stated the harvesting festival Chavan Kumhrin was first started to organize at Modi village in Chandel district at district level and since then the festival begun to celebrate on October 23 every year after the Manipur Government recognized it as a festival of the Anal tribe with a district holiday of Chandel.
This festival has not only attained popularity but also brings unity for the tribe, said Anal Taangpi Valing. It also promotes the tribe’s cultural heritage in a healthy manner. The Chavan Kumhrin festival which was initiated by the Anal tribe at the beginning, has become a common festival for all the tribes inhabiting Chandel district today. The celebration has also been Christianised.
The Anal tribe is one of the oldest tribes of Manipur. They occupy the Chakpi River basin and its adjoining areas upto the Indo-Myanmar border in Chandel district of Manipur. The Anals are also found dwelling mostly in Sagaing Sub-division of the neighbouring Myanmar.
