IMPHAL, Jan 19 NNN: Manipur Loumi Lup (farmers’ union), Manipur State Council has geared up to launch a series of democratic agitations in Manipur for the cause of farmers in the state.
Manipur Loumi Lup affiliated to All India Kishan Sabha, New Delhi has announced that it would push for a dozen of demands like proper water for paddy fields, safe drinking water for every village and offering of a pension scheme to elderly farmers and 35 kg of rice to poor families, and rice at Rs 2 per kg.
Addressing a press conference at Irawat Bhavan here, former CPI MLA and Manipur Loumi Lup in charge N Mangi accused the state Government of not providing farmers’ benefits and also of non-implementation of various scheme and projects meant for them.
He alleged that the Government has not been competent enough to activate different multipurpose dam and barrages in the state and demanded to start operating these water sources after rejuvenation.
The Loumi Lup will launch a series of agitations after organsing a rally on January 28, Mangi announced.Protest dharnas will be oraganised in every district and village in the state, he said. Inspections will also be conducted on the dam and barrages on a regular basis.
