NNN: Not happy with the Manipur Government’s apathy toward its demands, the Joint Action Committee (JAC) for brutal physical assault on Veronica (name changed), a 9-year-old domestic helper, has threatened to launch further agitation. On Saturday, members of the JAC briefed the media on the case, charging the state Government that it is hesitating to fulfill its demands and instead showing lack of concern to the committee’s call for an early solution to the issue.
AC Thotcho, convenor of the Veronica JAC alleged that the Government and the concerned authorities are undecided on the issue till now as they do not want to do justice to the victim. He warned, “If the Government chooses to keep mum on the issue, the JAC will take up more intense agitation.” Veronica, a minor domestic helper was reportedly severely beaten up by the house owner, Jim Horam and his mother named Eda Horam at Kachai village in Ukhrul district of Manipur on February 3 this year.
She got multiple fractures in the collar bone and left hand in the attack. Thotcho was also informing that Jim is now being lodged in Central Sajiwa Jail Imphal after a case was filed regarding the incident while his mother has been released on bail.
