IMPHAL, Mar 3 MNS/NNN : The North East Inter-State Winger Service Transport Union’s indefinite halting of its service has begun since last midnight along the Imphal-Dimapur road. The transport union said owing to the ‘unacceptable monetary demands’ to the union by various militant groups and non-implementation of the agreement reached among the union, Owners’ Union and the Counter Association has prompted the transporters to resort to the agitation. Speaking to reporters today in Imphal, the transporters’ union president M Tomba Singh said the agitation has been called not against any organisation “but we want that those groups decrease the amount of the demands.” Spelling out numerous taxes and fees including police check posts, toll taxes, excise, transporters unions and other taxes, M Tomba Singh said to and fro from Imphal to Dimapur, around Rs 1600 has been spent by a single transporter besides monthly fees to the Dimapur Municipality Council and Bus Union, Dimapur. M Tomba said that a single passenger has been charged Rs 600 from Imphal to Dimapur of which 50% each has been shared by the transporters and the counters. “After all these payments, we are left with a meagre amount which hard for us to maintain the vehicles and our families,” rues the president of the Winger transporters’ body. M. Tomba said, besides demand of UG groups, the concerned person of vehicles which were proceeding towards Dimapur expended Rs. 740 for police checkpost, Narcotics, forest and excise. While proceeding for Imphal, Rs. 750 is spent. Meanwhile, other demands of the inter-state Winger transporters union are to establish a Highway Protection Force jointly by the Centre, the governments of Manipur and Nagaland; to construct a place at Dimapur where passengers and the transporters can come and have food or relieve themselves. Dimapur, Mar 3 NNN : The tempo of demand for the creation of ‘Frontier Nagaland’ state by carving out four eastern districts of Nagaland state became very vocal during the regime of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) led Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) government alleging of the step-motherly treatment by the Nagaland government. However, the people of the four districts of Nagaland voted for the NPF to victory in majority of the constituencies in the proposed Frontier Nagaland has different story to say.
Out of the 20 assembly seats in the eastern Nagaland that comprised of four districts including Mon, Tuensang, Longleng and Kiphire, the people have voted to victory for the NPF in 13 constituencies, of the 19 seats elections were held. Tuensang Sadar constituency will go to the poll on March 23 which could not go to the poll due to the demise of one of the contenders days before the poll.
Under the aegis of Eastern Naga People’s Organisation (ENPO), an apex frontal body of the four districts, the demand for the creation of Frontier Nagaland climaxed last year. The ENPO’s theme of demand was purely for development alleging that the Nagaland government was meting out a step-motherly treatment to the four districts. The ENPO pointed out that roads were in deplorable condition in the ENPO area; government establishments including schools infrastructures were at the worst state of affairs.
Armed with all these points, ENPO leaders had camped in New Delhi on several occasions. They had apprised the Central leaders that they were determined to part ways with the present Nagaland state. To soothe this pandemonium, the Nagaland government had offered fat economic package to which the ENPO refused. In the midst of this picture, elections to the Nagaland assembly elections were held and the people have voted NPF to victory in 13 of the 19 seats.

Imphal Mar 3 UNA : Irom Sharmila, who has been on fast for the last more than 12 years demanding repeal of controversial Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) 1953, was flown to New Delhi to appear in a court on Sunday.
Sharmila will be produced in Patiala Court tomorrow (Monday). She went after a summon was issued to her for appearing in the court in connection with a case pending against her. She had appeared in the same court numerous times with a pending case at the court over her hunger strike at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi.
She was accompanied by a doctor, two nurses, two women state police personnel and two personnel of the Imphal central jail, Sajiwa. A police team from Imphal East dropped them up to Imphal airport where she was taken to a flight of the Indian Airlines.
Many human right activists and womenfolk supporting her struggle, particularly members of Sharmila Kanba Lup (SKAL) wished her.
Even though she was taken to New Delhi with the case pending against her, Sharmila was not informed about the matter.
“I have no idea what to do while appearing in the court. None informed me about it,” Sharmila said talking to reporters before leaving for Imphal airport from JNIMS hospital where she was been lodging at the security ward of the hospital.
Going to Delhi and appearing in a court there was a challenge for her, Sharmila said, adding she left the challenge to almighty.
The Iron Lady of Manipur was summoned by the Patiala court her in connection with her fast unto death stir against the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act.
The anti-AFSPA campaigner Irom Sharmila was once served a contempt of court notice in December last year as she was not taken by the state government to New Delhi even after she was directed to appear before the Patiala House Court there. Earlier also she had appeared in the court on several occasions.
It may be mentioned that Sharmila resumed her marathon hunger strike against controversial AFSPA at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on October 4, 2006 soon after she was released by the JMIC Imphal East with the completion of her conviction period on October 2 the same year.
Irom Sharmila commenced her campaign against AFSPA on November 2, 2000 after 8 Assam Rifles troops gunned down 10 civilians at Malom of Imphal West. The 43-year-old hunger striker hails from Kongpal Kongkham Leikai of Imphal East district.
