SAIKUL, April 6 NNN: In a time when inter-village feuds are rampant and ethnic tussles are the affairs of the day, over 90 villages in the Island block region of Saikul assembly constituency under Sadar Hills in Senapati district have shown the ‘art of living’.
Nearly 100 villages comprise the Island Block region confined by Kukis, Nagas, Nepalis and even the Meitei community which is located some 30 km east of Imphal.
Today, a consultative meeting was held organised by Island Block Development Committee (IBDC) the the block headquarter at Island village participated by over 90 village chiefs, social workers and the church leaders.
The theme of the programme was to join hands in bringing development in the Island Block region so that peace and prosperity dwell. IBDC secretary A.S. Leishipem said unless the people work together nothing concrete and positive can be brought about in any society. Leishipem further said irrespective of different communities the people in the Island Block will work together to bring development and peace. Also attending the programme was Saikul assembly constituency legislator Yamthong Haokip who opined that without harmony no development can be brought about and again without development no peace will exist. Yamthong Haokip also said that if the people of the area do not oppose each other on any matter but strive to co-operate in bringing development, peace will autonomically come. Yamthong Haokip appeals the gathering to extend their utmost co-operation to the leaders so that no hurdles are witnessed in executing development projects in the area.
