IMPHAL, August 26 NNN : Founder of Congress Seva Dal Movement Dr Narayan Subharao Hardikar was fondly remembered by Manipur Congress Seva Dal on his 38thdeath anniversary at the Congress Bhavan here on Monday.
Manipur Pradeh Congress Committee (MPCC) president and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam led the participants of the function in laying flowers at the photo of Dr NS Hardikar. General salute was also given to the portrait of the late leader. MLAs, workers of the state Congress Seva Dal were present on the occasion.
Addressing the function, Gaikhangam remembered Dr Hardikar as a leader who fearlessly took a major role in the anti-Bengal partition movement in 1905 when he was quite young.
He said that today is one of the most significant days of Congress party and called for a united stand against all evils.Gaikhangam said that Congress always stands for social upliftment.
The Seva Dal was formed in 1923 following the Kakinada session of the Congress in 1923. The Dal played a stellar role in the Civil Disobedience Movement, organising mass picketing and enrollment of new members into the Congress party.
The Seva Dal became the central volunteer organisation of the Congress and focused attention on imparting its volunteers physical training and worked towards promoting communal amity.
