DIMAPUR, Sept 14 NNN : Nagaland ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries, MLAs and top bureaucrats will now look after their own security while in station as the state home minister had reportedly directed the state police headquarters to withdraw all security vehicle-escorts.
A leading newspaper based in Dimapur had reported that Nagaland home minister G Kaito Aye had issued this directive as more security personnel are needed for maintaining the worsening law and order.
It reported that the home minister had withdrawn his security escorts last week before issuing this directive. The daily added in its report quoting a senior police officer claiming that some Parliamentary Secretaries and MLAs had already ‘surrendered their escorts’ to the police headquarter.
Following this directive from the Nagaland home minister, some legislators and bureaucrats had expressed displeasure, the Dimapur based daily stated.
It can be noted here that over 600 police personnel were attached with the legislators along with one driver each.

IMPHAL, Sep 14 NNN : The premier medical institute of Manipur, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) today celebrated its 42nd anniversary amidst a state wide 12-hour bandh call given by militant outfit Maoist Communist Party (MCP) in protest against the alleged lack of care of the institute in health service.

IMPHAL, Sept 14 NNN : The Kuki National Front (KNF-N) has expressed its appreciation to all those who took maximum initiatives in the ‘glorious Black Day’ observance.
“Whatever the case may be, the Black Day was a success as expected from the citizens of the soil of Kukiland. The main national observance was held at Daitwi Camp with paying foral tributes to the departed souls in connection with the massacre during the ethnic cleansing of NSCN-IM as well as to those who lost their valuable lives for the creation of Kukiland. The main intention was to renew the strength and vigour of the cadres. Commander in chief James Kuki with the instruction of the president led the occasion which was attended by many chiefs and social workers,” the KNF-N claimed.
The Kuki outfit then said that consequently, the special task force chief K.S. Elson who also holds the post of deputy commander in chief of the organization read out the President’s message to the gatherings held at the outfit’s tactical headquarters.
According to the KNF-N, the international observance was held with dignity at Twisanjang (Myanmar) village where pastors, reverends and church elders took part in it which was addressed by Dr. Napoleon Kremlin, the president and the main programme was held with a mass prayer.
“On the other hand, Pu (L) Nehlun Foundation set up by KNF (P) under the convenership of UPF convener and general secretary of KNF (P) Aron Kipgen had been banned and therefore any individual or any leader of any organization involved should stay away immediately before the bloodshed takes place,” the KNF-N warns.
“It is our firm stand that we welcome any positive foundation for the development of our society like (L) Ngulhao Foundation, or taking the name of any prominent leaders during the Kuki rebellion (1917-1919) who had contributed to the cause of the Kukis,” the Kuki outfit stated.
It then said Pu (L) Nehlun was the champion in the movement for the creation of Kukiland, and his dream is still not fulfilled.
“So, his name should not be misused under any circumstance until his goal is achieved. The imposter managing director of the said foundation identified as one Sasang Thadou, whoever he may be should surrender to the KNF (N) at Daittwi base camp within two months or else a fitting punishment will be awarded if forcibly pick up by our cadres at any point of time. No further negotiation in this regard will be entertained under any circumstance,” the KNF-N asserted.

New Delhi/Bhopal, Sept 14 (ANI): The Congress Party on Saturday said it is a myth to expect that the nation will accept Narendra Modi as Prime Minister, a person who has no unanimity in his party.
“The country is watching the infighting within the BJP. It is a myth to expect the country will back a person about whom there is no unanimity in his party,” Congress leader Satyavrat Chaturvedi said. Social activist Shabnam Hashmi said that Modi’s anointment as the party’s Prime Ministerial candidate shows that BJP has no agenda except communalism.
“It is amply clear that BJP has no agenda except communalism because Modi is a symbol of communal thinking,” she said in Bhopal.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that such reaction against his party is natural because the Congress’ days in the Centre are numbered.
“It is natural that they would sweat against such a leadership; their worry and exasperations are natural because their days in the government are numbered,” he said.
BJP on Friday announced Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as its Prime Ministerial candidate for the 2014 general elections.
The announcement came after a meeting of the party’s parliamentary board here this evening, which unanimously decided to project Modi as the prime ministerial candidate.

Dr. H. R. Keshavamurthy, Director (M&C), Press Information Bureau, Kolkata.
Literacy is a human right, a road towards empowerment and a means for social and human development. Educational opportunities depend on literacy. Literacy is essential for eradicating poverty, reducing child mortality, curbing population growth, achieving gender equality and ensuring sustainable development, peace and democracy.
September 8 is observed as the International Literacy Day by UNESCO since 1966. Its aim is to highlight the importance of literacy to individuals, communities and societies. This year’s International Literacy Day was dedicated to “literacies for the 21st century” to highlight the need to realize “basic literacy skills for all” as well as equip everyone with more advanced literacy skills as part of lifelong learning.
The essence and role of education articulated in our National Policy on Education (NPE), continues to be relevant even today.
It states that education is essential for all and is fundamental to our all-round development. Education develops manpower for different levels of the economy and is also the platform on which research and development flourish to take nation towards self-reliance. In sum, education is a unique investment in the present and the future.
The Literacy rate in India has improved a lot over the last one decade. Especially after the implementation of free education in the villages the literacy rate has gone up tremendously in states like Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan . In a country like India, literacy is the main foundation for social and economic growth. When the British rule ended in India in the year 1947 the literacy rate was just 12%. Over the years, India has changed socially, economically, and globally. After the 2011 census, literacy rate India 2011 was found to be 74.04%. Though this seems like a very great accomplishment, it is still a matter of concern that still so many people in India cannot even read and write. The numbers of children who do not get education especially in the rural areas are still high. Though the government has made a law that every child under the age of 14 should get free education, the problem of illiteracy is still at large.
Now, if we consider female literacy rate in India, then it is lower than the male literacy rate as many parents do not allow their female children to go to schools. They get married off at a young age instead. Though child marriage has been lowered to very low levels, it still happens. Today, the female literacy levels according to the Literacy Rate 2011 census are 65.46% where the male literacy rate is over 80%. The literacy rate in India has always been a matter of concern but many NGO initiatives and government ads, campaigns and programs are being held to spread awareness amongst people about the importance of literacy. Also the government has made strict rules for female equality rights.
The literacy rate in India has shown significant rise in the past 10 years.
Kerala is the only state in India to have 100% literacy rate. It is followed by Goa, Tripura, Mizoram, Himachal Pradesh, and Maharashtra, Sikkim.
The lowest literacy rate in India is seen in the state of Bihar. Realising the importance of literacy, Government of India (Department of School Education & Literacy) endeavours to: Provide free and compulsory education to all children at elementary level; Become a partner with the States and Union Territories to reinforce the national and integrative character of education; Build a society committed to Constitutional values with the help of quality school education and literacy; Universalize opportunities for quality secondary education and Establish a fully literate society.
In the year 2010, the country achieved a historic milestone when the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009 became operative .The enforcement of the RTE Act represented a momentous step forward in our country’s struggle for universalising elementary education. Its objectives are intended to be accomplished through the following major programmes of the Central Government:
Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and Mid Day Meal at primary level.
Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan ,Model Schools at Secondary level.
Vocational Education, Girls’ Hostel, Inclusive Education of the Disabled.
Saakshar Bharat for Adult Education.
Mahila Samakhya for Women’s education.
Infrastructure Development of Minority Institutions; Scheme for Providing Quality Education in Madarsas for Minority Education.
A good quality basic education equips pupils with literacy skills for life and further learning; literate parents are more likely to send their children to school; literate people are better able to access continuing educational opportunities; and literate societies are better geared to face challenges.
