IMPHAL April 15:  The Manipur Electricity Employees’ Union has said in a press release that the bomb attack on MK Presho Shimray, Deputy Speaker, Manipur Legislative Assembly on April 9 by miscreants is a very unfortunate and horrifying incident. Furthermore, the union also stated that MK Presho Shimray who earlier in April 2013 escaped a similar attack is an honest leader. Any life attempt on his person by the miscreants is considered an illegal act, a release said.

IMPHAL April 15: Locals of Leimaram, Heinoubok and Waroi ching under Oinam Assembly constituency have today resolved to stay away from the upcoming Lok Shaba election during a meeting.
The meeting was attended by the village chief and elders.

Gayatri Devi convenor of the JAC formed in connection with the life attempt on Ningthoujam Tomba of Leimaram Mamang Leikai said that the decision was taken after the government failed to give any positive response regarding the memorandum they have submitted to the deputy chief minister on 11 April regarding the life attempt.

She further said that the JAC has given five days-time to the state government to file a charge sheet against the accused Ningthoujam Biren, 56, son of (L) Tomaljao of Leimaram Awang Leikai who attack the victim Ningthoujam Ibetombi wife of Tomba with a double barrel gun on the night of March 7 at around 8.30 pm.

The memorandum had also demanded the transfer of Nambol police officer in charge who had abused and use slang words against the JAC members, she said.

IMPHAL, April 15: The Maoist Communist Party Manipur has in a press release said that preparation for the April 16 general strike called against the misuse of Local Area Development fund of the MP Dr Th Meinya Singh for ten years all set ready and further disclosed that 15 important locations have been identified for it and 15 Demolition Squad Units have also been deployed with bombs and necessary equipments so as to make a ravage strike.

The release mentioned that the Congress rule in India will come to an end and also of the O Ibobi led Congress government in Manipur and further appealed the people of Manipur to support general strike and at the same time, to stay alert of the bomb attack.

Khuraijam Chandra Singh passed away yesterday at his residence at Langthabal Mantrikhong Mayai Leikai after a prolonged illness, it said. All members of the association deeply mourned and expressed their sorrows toward the bereaved family members and a 5 minute silence was observed.

MOIRANG, April15: The 70th Anniversary of Flag Hoisting Day to commemorate the first hoisting of the Indian tri-colour of Free India at Moirang was held yesterday at the INA Martyrs’ Memorial Complex.

The programme was jointly organised by Department of Arts and Culture, Government of India and was presided over by Ph Shamu, Member of INA Advisory Committee Moirang with Dr K Sobita Devi, Director, Art and Culture, Govt. Of Manipur as chief guest, lt general Mandhata, president Akhil Bharatiya Poorva Sainik Seva Parishad; N Ibungochoubi, vice-president, Manipur Tourism Forum as guests of honour.

The programme started with ritual ceremony at Moirang Kangla followed by the flag hoisting of the Tri Colour Flag and floral tribute to Netaji. The programme was not only to observe and remember the 70,000 Japanese Allied Force personnel and Netaji but also to commemorate the British soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the Second World War and pay respect to their families who come every year, said Dr. Sobita Devi in her speech.
