KANGPOKPI, May 5: Government alone cannot be blamed for lack of reformation in the society, the people as well, have their own responsibilities towards the society, opined Nehginpao Kipgen.

He said that when there is quality education, self-respect, transparency and when the government is sincere towards the people and when the people are similarly sincere enough, society can be reformed.

Nehginpao Kipgen, a political scientist (USA) was speaking on the reception program organised for him by Kipgen Khangthah Kiloikhom (KKK) today at Jangthang Memorial Hall, Haipi village, Sadar Hills.

Nehginpao Kipgen who is also the general secretary of the US-based Kuki International Forum and a well-known renown scholar, whose research focuses on the politics of South and Southeast Asia, with a concentration on Burma/Myanmar stressed the significance of ‘Imagine Community’ during his introductory speech stating that living together does not signify love, respect, care and concern for the society or community in particular.

Back in Manipur after 15 years, Nehginpao Kipgen continued that where ever you are-alone or with group- have concern, respect and regard for the society or your community and love it. That imagination for your society or community is much more important for your people.

While hailing the state dailies for publishing his articles, a Myanmarese by nationality Nehginpao Kipgen admitted that the world begins to recognise him through his articles published in the state dailies and gave credit to the state dailies for his present fame and dignity.

Encouraging the youngsters of the state as a whole and not just to prepare them for exams or clearing the civil service but to focus their mindset to become a renown scholar, researcher, etc., the political scientist pointed out that most people of the state in particular and India in general are focusing only on clearing or passing civil services.

“To be a Political Scientist you must have knowledge and education to analyse things objectively not subjectively,” noted Nehginpao Kipgen.

Speaking on the political issues of Manipur, Nehginpao Kipgen, whose numerous academic (peer-reviewed) and nonacademic analytical articles on the politics of Myanmar and Asia widely published internationally said that the political issues of Manipur is very critical and sensitive.

But, in a democracy, politics is sometime very complicated. That is why it is sometimes said that Political Science is a messy subject, added Kipgen.

The UGs in Manipur might have their own respective reason but the people needs to respect the opinion, dignity and culture of one another because the state is a diverse state, asserted Kipgen before adding that “when you are in a diverse society you cannot always promote yourself”.

An author at Foreign Journal Policy, Nehginpao Kipgen pointed out for peaceful coexistence among the people and said both the majority and the minority should respect and show concern for each other adding that in Manipur the majority community that is the Meetei should respect the rights of the minority group like Kukis, Nagas, Nepalese, etc. similarly the minority group on the other hand if they want to live peacefully in the state should have mutual respect and understanding with the majority group and also respect the diversity as well.

“Always remember when you do good things; your family, society and the nation are happy. Follow the ethics of Christianity accordingly to the will of God. Assumed that whatever you do is a missionary work”, encouraged Rev. Dr.Paokhosei Kipgen while exhorting and blessing the Political Scientist.

IMPHAL, May 5: The Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy has said in a release that the academy in celebration of its Diamond Jubilee, a 5 Day Festival of Lai Haraoba will be organised at the premises of JNMDA Complex from May 6-10.

During the festival, a 3 Day lecture cum demonstration on three schools of Lai Haraoba will be organised which aims to spread awareness about the unique feature of the particular schools to the students of the Academy as well as to the general public, it said.

Professor N Tombi Singh, vice-chairman, JNMDA and Ng Kerani Singh, Pandit Achouba, Pandit Loisang will attend the inaugural function as chief guest and president respectively.

IMPHAL, May 5: The Indian Red Cross Society, Manipur State Branch said in a statement that ‘World Red Cross Day’ will be observed on May 8 at 4 pm at their office at MG Avenue.

A voluntary blood donation camp will be organised at the RIMS Blood Bank from 10 am to 1 pm in connection with the function , said the Secretary of Manipur state branch.
