IMPHAL, May 5: The five imposters who were nabbed by locals of Kairang Muslim for posing as police personnel and frisking passers-by have been remanded to police custody by the court today.

All five were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate today and have been remanded in police custody till 9 May.

Later they were handed over to the concerned police.

They are Yumkhaibam Bhabananda, 25, son of (L) Brajamani of Uripok Bachaspati Leikai, Anoubam Thomas, 24, son of Helendra of Uripok Khaidem Leikai, Lasihram Manao, 24, son of (L) Gyaneshor, Longjam Dinesh, 24, son of Amar and Angom Suresh, 25, son of (L) Bijoykumar the last three from Uripok Bachaspati Leikai.

IMPHAL, May 5 (NNN): Apparently triggered by a family quarrel over property dispute, a man in his 50s who tried to kill his wife and three grown up children by using a dagger was arrested by the police today.

The incident took place at Leirongthel Mayai Leikai located under Yairipok police station, Thoubal district of Manipur at around 9:30 pm yesterday.

The father who stabbed his family members has been identified as Meipham Gopeshore (56) s/o (L) Nimai of Leirongthel Mayai Leikai. His wife Lamani (50), son Robindro (33) and two daughters namely Tombi (27) and Ibemcha (21) after being stabbed by Gopeshore were rushed to CHC Yairipok for medical attention. The youngest daughter, Ibemcha being severely hurt in her stomach was later operated at RIMS on referral.

IMPHAL, May 5: In an attempt to provide medical facilities to the far flung areas, the District Mobile Medical Unit camp 2014-14 has been flagged off in Thoubal district by the Chief Medical Officer of the district Dr S Saratkumar Singh at District Health Society, Thoubal Wangma Taba today.

On its first day, the mobile medical unit rendered medical service at Sangaiyumpham part II.

During the flagging off of the program, the CMO Thoubal said that the District Health Society Thoubal has launched the program so as to “reach the unreached” and further added that 100 plus such mobile medical camps were conducted in the previous year while 240 such camps is being targeted this year which necessitated to conduct 20 camps in each month in the district.

The CMO further mentioned that the aim of outreaching medical camp to the unreached is to provide medical facilities to those deserving pregnant woman so as to reduce mother child mortality rate during delivery cases.

Dr Saratkumar also stated that the aim of the program could only be achieved when health facility and related health education are provided to the deserving rural folks.

He also mentioned of the facilities which could be available under the mobile medical camp such as pre and post natal health check up, timely vaccination of the children, family planning program, health care for adolescence, necessary tasting for malaria and HIV/AIDS etc.

For the first time, the mobile medical camp will cover all the Anganwandi Centres of the district, the CMO mentioned and further continued that 755 and 459 Angaanwadi centres are operating in Thoubal and Kanching Block respectively.

The mobile medical will cover free medication including ultra sound, X-ray, laboratory taste, Saratkumar said and he also made a general appeal to all Anganwadi workers and helpers to extend cooperation in the medial outreached venture.

IMPHAL, May 5: The inaugural function of Bamboo Festival which was organised by the Eastern Bamboo Production Society, Manipur was held today at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound, Imphal. The function was attended by H Brajamani Sharma, State Mission Director of the National Bamboo Mission (NBM), Manipur as chief guest and N Somerendro Singh, Assistant State Mission Director of NBM Manipur as president respectively.

During the function, H Brajamani Singh said that it is the first bamboo festival in Manipur and it is organised mainly to disseminate the importance of bamboo among the citizens of the state.

He further said that as our state is rich in bamboo resources, one should make use of it in various ways and as the state is still lacking in transportation, electricity and also industries, there is a long way to go; so artisan should make the value of bamboo and can make it a source of income.

He further appealed the artisan to standardise the quality of bamboo and add value to it for longevity.

He hopes bamboo festival will surely prosper in the future.

Family of deceased Election Observer to be compensated

IMPHAL, May 5: The family of the general observer of the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency Chandra Bhanu, IAS who died on duty of cardiac arrest during the Lok Sabha polls has been announced with a 35 lakhs ex-gratia compensation.

According to a highly placed source, the Election Commission of India has already issued instructions for granting ex-gratia compensation to the families of polling personnel who died or sustained injuries while on election duty.

The Commission has considered the matter for granting ex-gratia compensation to the family of Chandra Bhanu, IAS who died while on observer’s duty and has decided that a payment of ex-gratia compensation of Rs.35,00,000 has to be made to the next of kin of Chandra Bhanu, IAS, who was posted as Observer in Manipur during the current Lok Sabha Elections, the sources added.

The payment of ex-gratia compensation shall be given by the Chief Electoral Officer of the State of Manipur as the deceased was posted in Manipur even if appointed by the Commission. However, the expenditure incurred shall be shared between the State and Central Government as per the existing policy of sharing of election expenditure.
