IMPHAL, Sept 12: The State cabinet has today decided to hand over the case of the assassination of Ukhrul ADC member Ngalangzar Malue, who was killed by unidentified persons in Ukhrul and also the killing of Thotyo Kashung, Manipur Police commando personnel in an ambush, to the National Investigation Agency, NIA.

The meeting was held with the Chief Minister in chair this evening at the secretariat building.

M Okendro, Minister of Education and CAF & PD department, who is also the spokesperson of the government speaking to media, stated that the cabinet decided to hand over the cases to the NIA in order to take up concrete actions regarding the incidents by the State government.

It may be mentioned that ADC member Ngalangzar was killed by armed unidentified persons on July 12, at Finch Corner under Ukhrul District. Ngalangzar’s driver and his nephew sustained injury in the said incident.

In another incident on September 9, heavily armed unidentified persons led two ambushes on State security forces. It may also be recalled that the security personnel were returning to Imphal after stationing at Ukhrul town on the said day. Rifleman of 5 IRB, Thotyo Kashung, who was attached to Imphal West District Police commando was killed in the ambush. Two other personnel sustained injuries.

M Oken added that in this regard, the State government will approach the Ministry of Home Affairs for necessary action. He said the Cabinet has also decided to give Rs 5 lakh to the deceased’s family as ex-gratia, and Rs 1 lakh each to those injured personnel.
