IMPHAL, September 3: A man and his father stabbed another man to death during a brawl late last night in Uripok Yambem Leikai under Imphal Police station.
Enraged with the incident, locals demolished the house of the accused at Uripok Bachaspati Maning Leikai.
The deceased has been identified as Angom Birendrajit Singh, 31, son of A Basantajit Singh of Uripok Yambem Leikai while the accused are identified as Tongbram Abothe alias Nonglenkhomba, 22, and his father T Chingsanglakpa of Uripok Bachaspati Maning Leikai.
Reports said Birendrajit, who was on an evening walk with another friend around 8.30 pm, had a fight with Abothe near the Western Club Yambem Leikai. However, the fight broke up after intervention from the nearby locals.
Around 10pm, Birendrajit along with his friend identified as Irengbam Manao Singh were returning from their walk along the same route when they were waylaid by Abothe and his father and attacked.
During the attack he was stabbed twice on his chest while his friend Manao was badly hurt in the leg.
The victims were evacuated to RIMS by locals but Birendrajit succumbed to his injury late at night.
As the reports of the death spread this morning, enraged locals stormed the residence of the accused and ransacked properties. The father and son duo were also thrashed by the angry locals however police intervened and took them into custody.
Meanwhile, the locality also convened an emergency meeting in connection with the incident and adopted resolutions against the accused family.
The meeting unanimously resolved to serve quit notice to the victim`™s family besides imposing them to compensate Rs 20 lakhs to the victim`™s family.
