IMPHAL, November 6: A combined team of the Bishnupur District Police commando unit and the 2/5 Gurkha Regiment conducted a search operation at Irengbam and Oinam village on November 5 and arrested an active member of the UNLF.

A PRO police statement has identified the arrested as Irengbam Raghu Singh, 50, son of (L) I Ibobi Singh of Irengbam Makha Leikai.

Investigation revealed that he was involved in preparing / making ‘star’ of UNLF in connection with the coming rising day of UNLF, it said.

During the follow up investigation, a self-styled district secretary of UNLF namely, Longjam Sanajaoba Meitei alias Boy alias Sana alias Batri alias Romi, 38, son of L Thoiba Meitei of Pukhao Meitanpokpi at present Porompat Konkham Leikai was also arrested from his residence and a 9mm pistol alongwith magazine loaded with 4(four) live rounds seized from his possession, it said.

On further follow up action, another active member of UNLF organisation, namely, Sanjengbam Ramananda Singh alias Rama, 33, son of S Kalachand Singh of Awang Jiri was also arrested from his residence and a 7.65 mm pistol alongwith magazine and three live rounds seized from his possession, it said before adding that a case has been registered at the Nambol Police Station and investigation is going on.

Meanwhile, the PRO IGAR (S) has said in a statement that troops of the 22 Assam Rifles of 28 Sector AR under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) launched an operation in the general area of village Pangaltabi Chingkha and apprehended a PREPAK cadre today.

It identified the arrested as No 245 l/cpl, Saikhom Maipak Singh alias Amuba, 39, son of Saikhom Gambra Singh, resident of village Pangaltabi Chingkha, Thoubal.

One 9mm pistol alongwith magazine and two live rounds were recovered from his possession, it said.

Both the arrested man and the recovered items have been handed over to the Sugnu police, it said.

In another operation, troops of the 6 DOGRA of 26 Sector AR under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) established a vehicle check post at Pallel and apprehended an active cadre of KYKL on November 5, it said before identifying the man as no 7381 self styled pvt, Laishram Hemen Singh alias Ramesh, 26, son of Amu Singh, resident of Wangjing Pukhri Achouba (Hodamba), Thoubal. The apprehendee was handed over to the Kakching Police Station, it said.
