IMPHAL, Dec 15: Early this morning around 5:30, an Indian made hand grenade was found at the gate of Imphal Municipal Council chairperson Aribam Nimai Sharma, son of (L) A Chandraj Sharma of Brahmapur Aribam Leikai, Imphal.

The IMC chairperson along with his grand-daughter had come out to pick up the morning newspaper and found the grenade lying nearby, according to a source.

The grenade was however, safely collected up by the Porompat Police and registered a case in this regard.

Speaking to media persons, Nimai Sharma who is also the councillor of Ward No 14-Yaishkul constituency said he had received no threat or pressure from any organisation or individual and cannot understand who could have made the grenade threat.

He said he should be given a chance to clarify if he had unknowingly committed a mistake or if anyone has any complain against him.

Meanwhile, locals including meira paibis staged a sit in protest against the grenade threat in a residential area. The protest was held at the club premises of the YB Club.

Meanwhile, a family member of the IMC chairperson said the family would like the use of sniffer dogs or finger prints investigation to track the miscreants.
