Dimapur, May 4 (NNN): The T R Zeliang government in Nagaland has urged the central government to make efforts to convince the NSCN(K) to reconsider their decision of abrogation of the ceasefire.
Nagaland chief minister T R Zeliang who is in New Delhi met Union home minister of State Kiren Rijiju on the development. The Chief Minister requested the Government of India to insist on the NSCN (K) to reconsider their stand and extend the Ceasefire Agreement between the Government of India and the NSCN (K) as the people of Nagaland want peace. Killings and acts of violence will not bring solution. It is only through dialogue and negotiation alone that permanent settlement and peace can be brought about which is the ultimate desire of the people.
Meanwhile, an emergency Cabinet meeting was held today in Kohima. The meeting chaired by Kiyanilie Peseyie deliberated and discussed on the unfortunate ambush on the Assam Rifles by NSCN (K) on May 3 at Changlangshu in Nagaland`s Mon district and conveyed its anguish over the loss of precious lives. The Cabinet expressed its deep concern over the incident that took place in spite of its appeal issued earlier to maintain the ceasefire. The Cabinet emphasized that killings in any manner cannot bring about solution to the prolonged Naga political problem and appealed to all concerned to desist from violence.
Meanwhile, Governor P B Acharya has strongly condemned the brutal killing of eight security personnel in Nagaland.
Governor of Nagaland P.B. Acharya, who is also the Governor of Assam and Tripura has expressed his deep shock and dismay at the dastardly killing of eight security personnel in Mon district of Nagaland on May 3.
Calling it an act of extreme cowardice, the Governor strongly condemned the incident and said that the innocent soldiers were killed in an ambush when they had gone to fetch water and not in a combat.
He called the departed soldiers as martyrs as they had lost their lives for the cause of the Motherland. He also said that violence had no place in a democracy and added that the Government would initiate the strictest action within the provisions of the law.
The Governor sends his condolences to the bereaved family members of the slain seven Assam Rifles personnel and one Territorial Army jawan.
Also expressing concern over the incident, Naga Mothers Association (NMA) said it is deeply concerned with the rising spurts of armed violence and the various incidents in various parts of the state and neighbouring states.
The NMA made a strong appeal to the NSCN (K) to reconsider and extend its Ceasefire with the Government of India in the interest of the people and the craving for lasting peace in our lands, irrespective of borders.The NMA also appealed to the Government of India to initiate extension of the hard earned Ceasefire with the NSCN (K) in the interest of the people and peace in our Naga areas across boundaries. “As mothers we are pained at the loss of lives and appeal to both sides to rethink and immediately initiate reviving and extending the Ceasefire in the interest of the people, it`s women and children,” the Naga Mothers Association added.
