IMPHAL, 12 May: Eminent film maker of the state Aribam Shyam Sharma will be conferred with the `Jewel of Manipuri Cinema `“ 2015`™ Award in recognition of his influential contribution towards the Manipuri cinema on May 14 at the Manipur State Film Development Society, Palace Compound, announced chairman of Film Forum Manipur L Surjakanta Sharma during a press meet at its Lamphel office today.
He informed that Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh will hand over the prestigious award to the film maker during the occasion.
Surjakanta said that a felicitation function will be held in honour of the legendary film maker on May 14 in recognition of his notable achievements.
A cash prize of Rs 1, 01, 000, memento worth Rs 10, 000, citation along with a shawl will be presented to the film maker during the function, he said.
He also said that screening of films on theatres will be ceased on the day as a marl of respect to Aribam Shyam Sharma.
Mention may be made that Aribam Shyam Sharma has already bagged 15 National Awards in the field of cinema. He was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement from Film Division V Sataram and also achieved `Grand Prix`™ for his film `Imagi Ningthem`™.
His much-acclaimed film `Isanou`™ was screened at Cannes on May 14, 1991. Many achievements have been registered in his name.
