Vehicular movement along NH-102 disrupted due to JAC bandh

IMPHAL, May 26: Indo-Burma trade and vehicular movement along National Highway-102 came to a grinding halt today due to the ongoing 48-hour highway bandh imposed by the Joint Action Committee

IMPHAL, May 26: Indo-Burma trade and vehicular movement along National Highway-102 came to a grinding halt today due to the ongoing 48-hour highway bandh imposed by the Joint Action Committee from May 25 midnight demanding immediate removal of KNO/KNLF from Tengnoupal Block.

In a press meet which was attended by the JAC members at Kuki Students`™ Organisation, Tengnoupal Block, Chandel, JAC secretary L Thangboi Mate reiterated that the JAC was compelled to impose the bandh as the government has utterly failed to shift the designated camp of KNLF from Tengnoupal Block despite intimation by local MLA DK Korungthang to Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam on May 19 appealing to shift the camp within two days.

He said that the Hermon designated camp has already accommodated cadres of KNA, UMLA and PRA but the recent inclusion of KNLF cadre into the said camp has created lots of problems in the area.

He warned that if the government fails to address the matter then the JAC will be compelled to resort to launch intense agitation after the ADC election on June 1.

He continued that cadres of the underground outfits were allowed to stay in the camp following an understanding with the Government of India and Government of Manipur with the hope that it will being peace in the area.

`We want potable water and more schools in the area but not guns and violence`™, he said, adding that development does not come from resorting to using guns.

Saying that there is an apparent lack of infrastructure to bring development in the area but the government has turned the area into a zone of UG groups, he questioned that how students and youths in the area could become good and responsible citizens in such unfavourable situation in the area.

He urged to the government to fulfil the demands of the JAC including immediate removal of KNLF cadres from the block at the earliest so as to maintain peace and harmony in the area.

Supporting the bandh, locals of the area blocked the National Highway 102 and slogans such as `we want peace and harmony not gun`™, `Do not make our area a den of underground outfits`™ etc were displayed.

Tapir Gao questions govt`s `inaction` on Dzuko Valley issue

IMPHAL, May 26: BJP national executive member Tapir Gao has demanded Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh and his deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam to provide an explanation, their role and stand

IMPHAL, May 26: BJP national executive member Tapir Gao has demanded Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh and his deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam to provide an explanation, their role and stand on the boundary dispute in Dzuko Valley.

Addressing an observation of the BJP`™s completing one year at the Centre, Tapir Gao said the Centre has a role to play in resolving inter-State boundary resolves.

But, he questioned, why has the State government of Manipur remained silent on the Dzuko Valley land encroachment issue for so many years.

He said it is a big surprise that even though the Nagaland government has constructed a 15-km road and a tourist lodge in Manipur territory, the State government continues to remain silent.

The BJP national executive member said Gaikhangam who is the State Home minister is also a Naga leader, and further demanded that he must clarify on his stand on the issue before the people of Manipur.

Tapir questioned Gaikhangam, what his role is in the construction of the road and tourists lodge by the Nagaland government at Dzuko Valley.

He also questioned whether the Senapati district administration and concern SDO still exist.

He continued there are reports of UG groups who are signatories of the Suspension of Operation or the Cease-fire agreement are involved in threatening ADC candidates of political parties except for NPF.

He said NSCN (IM) collective leaders sitting at the outfit`™s headquarter at Hebron have clarified that they have not given any directive to their cadres on the issue.

They have also informed that the outfit is under cease-fire with the government of India and have always maintained the ground rules, he said.

He further appealed to all the Kuki and Naga UG groups not to interfere in the conduct of the ADC election.

There are also reports of SoO signatory KNF (N) cadres moving openly with weapons at Saikul area and why have the State government remained silent on this issue, he further questioned.

BJP Manipur Pradesh president Chaoba has said that the UPA government in the Centre during the last 10 years had brought down the name of the country before the world, which has been restored by the Modi government in just one year.

He said in June, the Prime Minister will launch the first Atal Pension Yojana which will provide Rs 1000 to Rs 5000 to persons who are above the age of 60 years.

The Prime Minister has put focus on NE among his top priority, he said.

However, the Manipur government is neglecting the schemes of the Central government and it is clear that the State government does not want development in the State, he claimed.

In the function State BJP leaders and party workers were also present.

IMPHAL, May 26: Following appeals from the parents of Sanasam Diyabi Singh, a student of class X of Grace English in Cachar, Assam, to look into his death on May 21, the State government has decided to depute a State level Fact finding team.

The team will consist of DIG Range II, Dr S Ibocha Singh, addl director (Education-S/ Valley) and Sr Research Officer, Education (S) T Geetchandra Sharma, according to an official order issued by deputy secretary Education (S).

The team will have to submit its report by June 1.

It said the team will look into the antecedents of the school, the persons who run the school and all relevant facts pertaining to the school and its management that may be of importance both to the case as well as `to throw light to the State government as to what type of institutions are being run outside Manipur that entices the students of the State to join them.`

It further said that the team may look into the possibility of the school taking students from the State allegedly as `orphans`™ and deriving `pecuniary benefits` through such false representation of facts, which in the present case may have given them the authority of being the `parents/ guardian` to the deceased and even collect the body thereafter and keep it in their custody.

Further according to the order, the team shall visit the Grace English School, PO Ujan Tarapur, Cachar, Assam and enquire into the various contradictory information given to the parents of the deceased.

Art and culture on the descent in State: JNMDA director

IMPHAL, May 26: The State`™s art and culture is moving backward as compared to a few years back, said JN Manipur Dance Academy director L Upendro Sharma. The main factor

IMPHAL, May 26: The State`™s art and culture is moving backward as compared to a few years back, said JN Manipur Dance Academy director L Upendro Sharma.

The main factor for this is the demise of many eminent personalities of art and culture which has somewhat impeded the growth, he said at the 16th foundation day observation of the All Manipur Art & Culture Students`™ Union today.

The observation was held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy, Imphal today.

The deceased of many imminent personalities have left such a void that the present crop of artists is failing to fill in, he said.

This is quite unfortunate, he added.

He continued a student of art & culture should be diligent in learning the finer aspects of his field.

The director also lauded the works of AMACSU and the role it plays for the development of Nata Sankritan.

He continued the JNMDA and the AMACSU get along very well because most of the office bearers and members of AMACSU are former students of the JNMDA.

Art & culture director Dr K Sushila said culture is a way of life and we need to take it out of the State more often to popularise and develop it.
