Sit-in-protest staged

IMPHAL, Aug 1 : A sit-in-protest was staged at Malom today demanding the concerned authority to construct an alternate crematorium at Malom Tuliyaima Awang Leikai before demolishing the sole crematorium of the locality for fencing work of Imphal International Airport.
The protest demonstration was organised by Apunba Coordinating Committee, an apex body of Ibudhou Pakhangba Thougallup, Malom No 1 Students’ Club, Development Committee Malom Tuliyaima Awang and Koirou Development Committee.
Talking to media persons, Raman Laishram, convenor of the committee said that they have got an intimation from the concerned authority that the sole crematorium of the locality would be demolished on account of fencing work of Imphal International Airport.
He said that repeated appeals had been made to the new BJP-led coalition Government as well as to the previous Government in this regard but no positive reply has been provided till date.
He added that the committee will impose a 12 hours bandh along Tiddim road on August 3 from 6 am as announced earlier. Any untoward incident arises during the bandh should be the sole responsibility of the concerned authority, he cautioned.
